Fuck me - I was also a massive Housemartins fan, Shug - circa 1986-88 : I even wrote to them so often that I eventually went out with their merchandising/publicity press officer Janice for a year (she was the one who replied to nearly all my letters , her ex-boyfriend Sean Welch also worked for the Housemartins as roadie before joining Heaton in The Beautiful South as bass player. Shortly after they became huge, me and Jan split up - but it was a good year for me - lots of happy memories.)

First LP:Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton

First CD:Just Say Yes (Sire compilation that was dirt cheap that had the Mode, the Bunnymen, the Ramones, the Replacements, Aztec Camera, and Ice-T).

First tape was something by Steve Miller in the later '70's

First LP was Time Passages (I think the album title is corrected) by Al Stewart

First CD is a toughie...can't really remember. Could of been a replacement for soething i had on tape, so, that could have been depeche, REM or New Order...

First music dvd...Crystal!!!!!!!!!

I have no recollection of that.

I just remember my 3 1st films when I bought a DVD player, more than 3 years ago : Scream & Contact.

first 7": Kayak - Lyrics first album: Kayak - Kayak (their first album) first 12": New Order - Confusion (almost sure about this one) first CD: New Order - Substance, I even bought it a few years before I had a CD player, since it was sooooo beautiful to see and to have and since I was afraid that maybe it would not be for sale anymore at the time that I would have a cd player!!

first DVD: New Order - 316. AND AGAIN, haha, I DO NOT have any DVD player yet. (By the way, anyone having a good suggestion which DVD player I should buy????).

first Video (music): New Order: live at Brixton!! (then I would never have guessed that live at Brixton would also be my first New Order live experience, only a few (!?!) years later it was).

I don't own it anymore, though I was a big fan of the first three albums, I sold them all when some of their later work god so bad I felt embarrased to own it.Though if I could detatch myself from those feelings, I imagine some of those old tracks are still good, Messages, Electricity,Julia's song,Red Frame White Light(I once rang that number6323003 and had a chat with a girl for about 5 mins)

I like your thinking, buy the DVD before the DVD player...why didn't I do that

With my own money, I believe I purchased New Order Substance on vinyl a few months back, and I have a little vinyl collection going...

I remember back in the old days before cd players (or at least before their availabilty to the general public) sitting around the house playing the vinyl 45 of Beat It by the ubiquitous Mr. Jackson on my grandma's record player, as well as Bill Cosby comedy albums and some Huey Lewis as well, if I'm not mistaken

My first vinyl 7 inch was The Smiths - Shakespeare's Sister:

my first album (on cassette) was Ocean Rain by Echo and the Bunnymen;

I don't know what my first CD was though.

Michael, that 7" you mentioned was really good. the b-side was a song about a man who buried his money in the backyard titled something like "Legend of Wolly Holler". I used to flip it over quite a bit. some things in the south are standard issue i guess.
