The first record you ever bought

This topic may turn out similar to the confessions page,if we tell the truth, I notice every one asked in music mags seems to have bought 'planet rock' when they were 4,anyway to get the ball rolling, the first record I ever got bought for me was 'Rupert and other childrens favourites', the first record I ever asked to be bought for me was E.L.O. 'Don't bring me down'/'Last train to London' *cringes* the first record I ever went into a shop and bought myself was OMD's 'Archietecture and morality' and if Muzik ever asks that's what I'll tell them.

The first single I ever bought was True Faith 94 and the first album was Best Of, i'm proud of this fact!

Don't know about first one bought for me, but the first I bought, both 7" singles, were MC Hammers 'They put me in the mix' b/w a Hammer megamix, and Heavy D and Boyz 'Now that we found love' b/w an instrumental version.

The first album was Heavy D's 'Peaceful Journey'

The first record (45) that I remember buying with my own money was "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by The Charlie Band.

I know, I know....but I DO live in Texas. Plus it IS a catchy tune.......;)

First CD I bought: Best of The Animals (still have that--it's a good one)

First purchase with my own money: Tough to call, but I beleive it may have been something by the VU or JD, I can't remember right off.

My parents bought me Michael Jackson's Thriller and his brother Jermaine's album. I don't remember the name of the album but it had a song about ant people on it. I'm surprised that it didn't turn out to be a classic :)

First CD I bought was probably an early REM album like Dead Letter Office (with Chronic Town!!) or Murmur.

First record I ever bought was "White Light White Heat" by the Velvet Underground, aged 6. I had a family member with a box of very cool records, and the terminal decline set in from a very early age when I got introduced to the Doors and the Beatles when they were still together !

First single I ever bought was "Denis" by Blondie. First CD was "Songs To Learn And Sing" by Echo and the Bunnymen. First bootleg was the ubiquitous Paradiso JD tape.

I am old... My first single was 'Love Is All' by Roger Glover & guests. I bought my first LP when I was 12. It was 'Made In Japan' by Deep Purple (it was a double album; had to save up money for about half a year for that). I bought 2 CD's when I got my CD player: 'Purple Rain' by Prince and 'Infected' by The The.

...my first vinyl single was: Jan Hammer "Crockett's Theme"

...and my first compact disc was: Rick Astley "Whenever you need somebody"...shame on me...

Is this sad enough?

Bought it in 1984 me thinks. Mostly for the track Run Runaway. Loved that drum intro and that guitar riff. But really it's a shite record, right?

Second purchase was Alphaville's Forever Young. Slightly better. Still not much credibility though.

The first CD I ever bought was (the best of) New Order. I had no idea who they were, I just bought it on the recommendation of a friend. Turned out that most of the songs were songs that I remembered from my childhood and hadn't heard for years. And thats how my New Order fetish began. Not that all my album choices have been good. I once bought a Limp Biscuit album, then after realizing what I had done, gave it to my little brother. Only then did I realize that I didn't want him listening to that crap either, so I snapped Limp Bizcuit in two and gave him my copy Substance and bought myself another.

The first record I ever bought with my own pocket money was Turning Japanese by the Vapours. Also the first LP I bought with my 'own' money was the Vapours New Clear Days.

The first record that I had bought for me, which I liked, was either Elvis the Pelvis's Way on Down or Walking on the Moon by the Polis.

In hindsight not too bad, but at the time I was also a big fan of the Darts!?

In the 70's I also used to be quite a fan of both the Muppets and Rod Stewart. Not very surprising because Rod is a damn Muppet himself.

As for the Housemartins, I wish they hadn't split and that Stormin' Norman still was just a bass player.

I was stating the obvious again, but I just couldn't resist it. Every now and then I still get ridiculed by my family for singing along to Rod's songs when I was four. Grrr

Mine was - unbelievably - "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison - I was about 6 then - and I'm proud to say I bought this myself with a record token (given me for Christmas by my Aunt) at the market record stall when my elder sister took me shopping one Saturday in January 1971. I got into pop music at an incredibly early age - it was all Beatles , Beach Boys and Manfred Mann in our household when I was a wee nipper, but this was the first record I actually bought: I was given so many more when I was even younger (like alot of those Music For Pleasure EPs - like The Aristocats/Jungle Book - and The Archies "Sugar Sugar") ....I suppose that explains why I've become such an anal pop picker over the years. But why should I be ashamed of that?

Hey Hank - Yeah!!! Architecture And Morality by OMD is still a top album - don't you think? :) Reminds me of that really white Christmas we had in 1981 - when I was at sixth form. And have you listened to the instrumentation on the first "Joan Of Arc" track? Does it sound a bit familiar? If not, then I suggest you listen to "Bizarre Love Triangle" off "Brotherhood" and when the chorus comes along, listen to the synth refrain and tinkling bells part.....you may be pleasantly surprised. I wonder if any other sad NO fan has ever noticed this uncanny similarity (though not exactly note for note, it does sound spookily close)?
