Does anyone have info on how many copies of Get Ready have been sold in the UK, US, etc.?

I think I read somewhere it sold 33,000 in it's first week - which got it to number 6 in the charts - then it drooped out after another couple of weeks - so not a lot mate:nonono:

About 35 copies Stateside, and 75,000 and not much more back here - so it hasn't even gone GOLD in the UK - which makes it - officially - NEW ORDER'S POOREST SELLING ALBUM - EVER, EVER, EVER!!!

THE SHAME OF IT. THE FUCKING SHAME OF IT.

YES- if it did come out a month early it would have been Top 3  YES - if it came out a month early it wouldn't have to be up against so many other fuckers in the race for the top  YES- if the second single was not postponed by a whole month it would have scraped in a little higher  YES - if their fucking record company had done a better job by bringing out all three main formats at the same time instead of sneaking the vinyl out long after everybody ceased to notice or even care, it would have done much better  YES - if their fucking record company had taken the slightest bit of interest in their release schedules and product marketing, they would be much more successful than they currently are. YES - if I had my way, I would have shot Pete Tong in both eyes and in his bollocks long ago  YES - if the world was perfect, new Order would still be one of our biggest-selling bands around.

But they're not. So whose fucking fault is it then?

martin youre so right. london records seem to know fuck all about the kind of simple strategic marketing you get taught about in gcse business studies; they should be maximising the orders opportunities for success not fucking scuppering them. and to think i thought working for a record company would be my ideal job, but on second thoughts id probably end up being surrounded by a bunch of jumped yuppie half-wits who dont give 2 fucks about music. and pete tong? jesus christ; hes so middle-of-road its untrue. i mean supermen lovers? what the fuck! lets really push the boat out and get the chem bros in cos that would be oh so adventurous. tongy as far as A&R men go you are the crappest of the crap...first orbital now new order. are`nt you busy enough as it is with all your voiceover work and crap compilation making/endorsing? leave the order alone, they are stupid, impressionable and easily led.

Exactly, VG - most heartfelt comments and in total agreement with your views! There really IS no justice in the world sometimes is there?

I think a big part of the problem is London, and Tongy or whoever is in charge of their affairs at London, don't know where to catergorize the Order (NO still remain difficult to catergorize in 1 particular genre). Tongy thinks 'New Order=Influence on dance music....lets go dance" and puts a load of 4 to the floor remixers to rework the tracks as b-sides when it's pretty bloody obvious thats not what the potential NO album buyer is going to be looking for.

I'm not sure about this, but I've a suspicion that 60mph was put back to allow Superman Lovers to complete that atrocious remix, which also smacks of haste, thoughtlessness and downright stupidity.

Then NO help fuck it all up with their rockiest album ever.

Who bar a few stragglers such as me and Hank are going to be purchasing Mixmag, Muzik etc, and the new album by the 'Order? Yet adverts for the album were plastered all over these publications, no doubt at considerable expense.

New record company for the next album maybe? Or are the 'Order to lazy to be fussed about issues such as album sales nowadays?

Incidentally, 1 x photoshoot with Coco the clown = 1 grand 1 x design of poster = 800 quid 4,000 x 4 sheet poster prints (i.e. A0) = £3,500

total of £5k approx. to publicise in this manner.

fuck all really.

There are some very grey areas that probably defy categorisation and demographics, while New Order are probably still well regarded in dance circles, the punters there are amongst the fastest shifting demographic and that possibly explains Bernard's unwillingness to try and keep up at this late stage in his career. Leaving your product in the hands of remixers may be a safe bet and I'm happy with the results of about half so far,but this probably doesn't cater for the bulk of the album buying public and the dance fans probably don't buy that many albums(to busy hunting for an acetate that won't ever get released) So how do you keep most of the people happy, Plan A should be releasing every format on the same day. But then there is the factor of creating a buzz in clubs(of no concern to most here) but if Sasha and Digweed aren't playing it, 2 months before there is a sniff of a promo, it won't seem so precious if you don't get your promo another month before everyone else gets the official release. As for the fat arse Q readers and the public at large, they won't buy it unless there told to or they see 50 adverts during 'pop idol' and it stuck in the album top ten for a few months. So that leaves all those who bought the previous releases, namely us and our friends, speaking for myself, most of mine our in the category, too busy bringing up kids, working on a promotion at work, to worry about buying records before christmas. So unless you retain a passion for music in your thirties and found New Order in the eighties, then it looks like the music could fade and die, unless it starts to appeal to a younger audience, releasing Primitive Notion/Close Range would have been a better bet than 60mph/Someone like you(plodders). It looks like it could be dificult to continue to straddle the divide between rock and dance, without a mind blowing album to kick start things.A bit more thought in live shows would help, We're all talkin about the band, but not with the enthusiasm of old, so us the fans contribution to the marketing is in itself a factor.

New record company for the next album maybe? Or are the 'Order to lazy to be fussed about issues such as album sales nowadays? despite their protests to the contrary i reckon that sales are more important than ever now. im sure the record company are concerned about get readys relative flop status and i would be surprised if the band were completely immune to such concerns themselves. I suspect London hoped for big things; the album is very accessible and commercial enough to appeal across the board one would think and the media paid the requisite lip service. BUT still the big sales have as yet failed to materialise. record companes dont take too kindly to commercial disappointments and i doubt the band are in anyway a priority for London now, their treatment and ours in turn as fans is not going to improve. maybe im overreacting, i dont know, i just feel so protective of the order. i hate to think of them consigned to the commercial dustbin. oh well, i spose they`re doing better than most acts on the comeback trail. does anyone know more about their contractual arrangements with London? is it a 2 album deal?

It was a 3 album deal if I remember rightly which they fulfilled with the Best of/Rest of.

Can't think of too many London acts that are doing great at the mo come to think of it. Success nowadays is in blandness - I would disagree slightly and say GR was not that commercially driven musically (neither was Banrey's last outing with Electronic for that matter), certainly not as commercially driven musically as Republic (which was obviously far more successful). It could have probably done with a couple of 'Worlds' to make it more appealing to the public.

I think they could have played it a lot safer with the tunes.

Also does anyone no how it compared sales wise with Twisted Tenderness -I remember that going in at 6 first week as well

I'm afraid London is going to ditch New Order as they did with Electronic (the release of 'Late at Night' was cancelled outside the U.K., and 'Flicker', which should have been the third single from Twisted Tenderness, never came out), and with The Other Two. I fully agree with your comments about the way they've been managing the releases of Get Ready and the various singles.

Regarding the dance/rock issue, I think that they are not incompatible. New Order have been quite successful in clubs with Crystal. The problem is that the remixes are usually crap. I don't see the point in releasing two CD's and one DVD for each single. IMHO, the best solution would be to release only one CD containing one or two alternate good quality dance versions of the song and one yet unreleased B side. The radio edit should only be released for promotional use and for broadcasting but not on commercial CD's, since the full length version is already available on the album.

I also miss the time where they used to release stand alone singles...

New Order should have played it safer? Get Ready is full of commercial oriented songs: Crystal, 60MPH, SLY and Close Range are at least as catchy/pop oriented as Regret, World, Spooky and Ruined. Barney's lyrics are straight forward and simple to remember (he repeats most of them over and over). Republic was less commercially oriented in my opinion. It's more of a risk to release a full electronic album than one that's covered with guitars. Get Ready is a rock album. If the new songs sounded anything like World, they would NEVER get played on US rock stations and unfortunately, with the exception of college radio, is the only place New Order get airplay. It's a different situation in Europe because electronic/dance music has found a place amongst other forms of popular music. What about FEATURING BILLY CORGAN? Pathetic attempt to sell more records. NewOrder do not need American Rock Stars to help them sell their records. Barney needs to realize that every other line doesn't have to rhyme. The worst type of poetry rhymes the whole way down just like nearly every song on Get Ready. At least there are some good lyrics on Republic. I prefer listening to Get Ready over Republic, but to say it wasn't commercial enough is turning a blind eye. It was commercial and commercially motivated but it failed. Perhaps if they had the promotion that we know they deserved and had not taken 8 years to record a follow up they would have had more success. Lets just enjoy their records and stop worrying about chart position, copies sold etc...

This was a rant about how I believe NO are more alternative now than in the Republic period as Rock music aint big over here. And how I thought having Corgan on the album wasn't a sell out, and how I thought those on the other side of he pond were obsessed with him...

Fair enough. I suppose it is down to geographic location. If you knew the type of youth that walks around in Smashing Pumpkins T's they bought at Sam Goody's in the mall, you would hate Corgan too. Chemicals and Gillespie have a lot more in common with NewOrder than Smashing Pumpkins. It's frustrating that a band with little to no talent (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana) gets so much press and airplay. Our NewOrder sit alone in the corner, destined to be an "Eighties" band. Seb, I listen to NewOrder day and night (my happy tunes late at night....). I care about their musical path to the same degree i see others here expressing. I feel like it was a personal assault to include Corgan on the album. Those are worlds that should not collide. Smashing Pumpkins - New Order. One of these things is not like the other, one of these things does not belong.

End of. (as you say)

Hey Martin...

are you sure that the order only sold 35 copies of Get Ready in the States??? My store alone sold through our initial allotment of 25...

I think it might be closer to about 200....

You know, Brian, for a long time it didn't bother me that BC was on TMW, but more recently I have been asking myself why is he there? Does he really add anything? I know what your answers would be to those questions.

Doesn't matter mate - as you can see above, there are many other people here apart from me (and God knows I've ranted on and on long enough about the very same subject) who feel that New Order are completely Wasted on London Fucking R ecords and should fuck them off and seek another major who have at least SOME understanding of how to promote the band other than shit remixes, cash in compilations and a disgustingly contemptuous attitude to their fans that utterly stinks to high hell.

You and me both! I'm also EXTREMELY PISSED OFF about their failure this year - as a look at any of my previous rants on a similar theme will attest - and I've even written many letters to the fucking record company telling them what I think of them - some of these letters also got sent to the music magazines. I suggest you do the same,, and whilst we're at it, any other folks, like Seb, who feel as strongly as we do, should do likewise and send London Records some serious hate mail telling them to fuck right off. I already have done. Three times. So do it. For the good of all of us NO fans.

Yes Martin...

to hell with all of them...as long as I have my copy, I don't really care what the rest of America has...and London is only equaled in their ineptitude by the Warner's Brothers over here...I still say that if WB is looking for a hit by our heroes...all they have to do is push the little ditty with BC...I know a lot of us would have some problems with that...but...

well...I guess I should go take a nap now...

see all of you later!!!

They may fit nicely at Wall Of Sound. Good variety over there and Close Range + Chemicals collab fit right in.

It actually only went in at number 9, and out of the 75 in three weeks - making it Electronic's least successful album ever.
