i'd have to trawl the e-damaged memory banks for any real recollections... although listening to the peel session version of 5 8 6 i just had a rush of memory about watching a saturday afternoon bbc2 session [richard skinner??? fuck me how come all this is still in there???] of them playing some of the tracks,

I saw that too - 5.30pm on Saturday Live, a BBC TV prog, presented by Richard Skinner. They played Age of Consent (brilliant), In A lonely Place ("faster Steve...faster) and Blue Monday, with Tony Wilson banging the synth keys hard at the end, thinking he's Malcom McLaren.

Memorable for the Barney saying 'Fuck' in a live broadcast on Saturday Afternoon.

I WATCHED THE CHANNEL 4 HIGHLIGHTS SHOW LAST NIGHT , THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY THE PET SHOP BOYS , NEIL TENNANT SAID THEY WERE TWO OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BANDS EVER, BERNARD APPEARED TO MAKE A SARCASTIC COMMENT TO CHRIS LOWE....MAYBE AN IN JOKE.........NOT SURE......ANYWAY THEY SHOWED LIVE VERSIONS OF KRAFTY, LWTUA AND PART OF BLUE MONDAY WITH THE END CREDITS....BARNY GOT THE LYRICS WRONG ON KRAFTY....DESPITE THE AUTOCUE AND THERE WAS SOME DODGY DANCING DURING BLUE MONDAY

they also played transmission when giving mrs peel and mr peel jr, wife and son of the sadly deceased and much missed lord john of peel, a posthumous award.

Good for them...It's about time they accept something...I guess they got it over with their secretive attitude.

Agreed. Nice to see some people spreading positivity, rather than just coming on here to slag the new album using the fact they've 'been into this band longer than most' as a benchmark.

Shame we can't have Molly back too dishing out his thoughts and remembrances.

Its not being shown until tonight Spike. I will be taping it (Euro video). We'll see where we go after - I know a guy who SHOULD be able to change it to American format for you (thats if it is any good of course:thumb: )

Would be better to get it converted to DVD, because raw MPEG doesn't have format issues

Plus most yankee TV's can display full PAL resolution off a DVD but NTSC tape is a nono - it reduces the quality.

It's nice to see these reactions to ade x's posts. Am I imagining some Burroughs in his admirable prose?

Despite the limited posts i'm constantly lurking around these forums and for once I may have something to offer.

I recorded the above mentioned awards onto DVD.

So, does anyone know how I can convert it to a 5-10mb video file for emailing out to people if they want it??

What program do I need (it needs to be free)?

Any help would be appreciated

no one else still dresses like that so it must be

Ahem.

Sure, I don't usually have a baseball cap on indoors, but otherwise...

That said, I'm stuck in 1999. My idea of formal clothes involves a vaguely shiny shirt with one of those weird collars that don't fold down....

The NME awards on channel 4 was probably one of the most important music shows on terrestrial TV for the UK this year - it was amazing to see a great assembly of bands / musicians all in the one place (New Order, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, Pet Shop Boys, The Bravery, Snow Patrol, Paul McCartney and much much more). Watching the New Order performance the first time round I was bit disappointed with the editing and sound, but watching it a 2nd and 3rd emphasised the fact that New Order are definitely still worth seeing live! PS. does anyone know where Barney learned to dance like that?! :music:

apart from the order contribution this programme was almost completely valueless. repeated shots of cloned bands opening bottles of wine. the impassive faces of legends like the 'bloke from wings'. only new order and sheila peel seemed to be affected or emotionally responsive, all the other award winners wore their lack of personality and importance like a badge of honour. most of the live performances we've seen elsewhere. I ought to add that I hate all awards ceremonies and having made a number of them I can speak with self-satisfied hypocrisy on the subject. apart from the haircuts there's little to distinguish this from the brits. but the thing that's got my hairy goat is the dubbed audience noise. not only when the PSBs took the stage but all throughout the order performance. the same repeated whistling and screaming culled from some stadium recording. what was the point of that? it feels like I've got tinitus now.

SOMEBODY HAS THE VIDEO OF THE PERFORMANCE?

is the God-like trophy always a hand giving the finger? in the USA they couldnt even show the trophy on broadcast TV in fear of getting a huge fine now  or is that just a "number one" finger gesture?

do they have to fight among themselves for the award trophy, or do they each get to keep it for one weekend a month? or do they each get one? is Phil included?

i would think that Bono would be insulted by getting a "God-like" award... he certainly has a higher opinion of himself:baby:

"Is that Chris Lowe from the Pet Shop Boys back there wearing a cap?

Is he joining New Order?"

Sure looks like Chris.

Although I think he's pretty happy with his current gig.

Besides, how electronic can one band get?

Can anyone supply me with a DVD of the NME awards with NO collecting the award & playing the 4 song set?

Would you like fries with that?

With plenty of lemons, please.

You've thrown me with the baked potato - I thought that all Americans only ate fries with Mom's apple pie (sometimes soup). You have access to an appliance with which to heat your own food? - impressive.

... and now lemons.

Life on the edge.

You can do wonders with microwaves, H.

One of the fast-food chains here, Wendy's I think, has started advertising baked potatoes as an alternative to fries. I haven't taken them up on that yet.

aw thanks for the lovely things you said about my post! i been wondering what the reaction would be - went a bit paranoid about it :uhoh:

i'm glad i came on here - you all seem a supportive lot!

yeah the burroughs comment was spot on - my favourite writer without doubt - is it that obvious??? lol

it was great seeing the lads on tv again - i still remember seeing blue monday live on TOTP and KNOWING i was watching history being made on live tv - thursday's performance wasn't quite that but it was ace to see them on good form again.

and transmission under sir peel's award was a lovely touch. i sometimes find it hard to think if there's ever been a better record made...

i'll be back!

Don't be silly.

By the way, what does exactly Bernard says about Chris Lowe when he takes up the microphone? Sounds funny, but with that mancunian accent, I just can't understand !!!
