is it just a coincidence that the most recent album releases by 4 out of the 5 bands (ill also assume that motorheads most recent album, whatever it was and whenever it was released, did the same) debuted/peaked at no. 6 in the uk album charts? or is that the answer?
failing that, did they all record their most recent lps at the same studio? those posh ones in bath?

ok this is basically the same as i my last attempt with a wee bit tagged on. the 2nd but last albums of 4 out of 5 of them were #1 albums; "republic", "this is hardcore" "version 2.0" and "attack of the grey lantern". their follow up albums all peaked at #6. now ive left motorhead out cos i know fuck all about their nineties releases or chart placings, but again ill assume they fit the pattern...

I DID check your earlier solution and, believe it or not, I wanted to hold out for a little while longer to see if any more lazy buggers could be bothered getting off their asses and posting a few attempts before I announced the winning answer.
Well, seeing as that probably isn't going to happen now, I have to salute you ONCE AGAIN for getting it correct. Bloody hell - are you a walking encyclopedia or something - I set three major teasers and each time, it's you who gets the correct answer. This is getting spooky - are you sure you're not a psychic mind-reader or something?
So what you're saying is - each one of the named artists had a huge-selling number one album (well, Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" wasn't exactly mega, but still made the top) only to follow it with a stiff that only made number 6 before promptly vanishing off the face of the earth. Add to that MOTORHEAD'S "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith" - a number one LP in 1981, this was followed by 1982's "Iron Fist" which only made number 6 and then dropped out of the charts after two months.
Well done you fucking swot!!
