NewOrder purists how obsessed are you..?

I for one to this day have this inability to flick over a radio station if it is playing a NO track, its almost tradition that i must serve my duty and hear it out and what pitiful inane comment the dj comes out with at the end - 9times out of 10 its "from the band that bought you BlueMonday that was...." ARGHHHHHHH !!

Im not quite as bad as i was, circa Technique i was taping every snippet of tv with NO sounds on, (Grandstand was a goodie for NO tracks!) even down to Regret being played in the Vic on Eastenders!!

Whats your greatest claim(shame!) of obsession?

i stood in the gap a few weeks ago to hear BLT finish. i felt dirty, but satisfied.

As i visited a club, which was in a basement, i heard the first notes of blue monday. In my enthusiasm i jumped up forgetting there was a very low ceiling. So as i entered the club to dance people looked at me in a strange way. Finally a friend told me my face was all covered in blood, streaming down! i never noticed (drugs?). Apparently i had a 4 centimeter horizontal cut on my forehead!! As you can see i survived.

I once stayed in the warner brothers store because BLT 94 came on the video screen.

I bought World In Motion even though it was the anthem of the Engerlish for Italia 90. I'm a Scot you see, that made buying it one of those will I/won't I situations. I'm not anti-Engerlish, I just can't bring meself to cheer them on in a footy situation!

On a two week holiday in Crete in 1987 we went to the same disco every evening (there was only one there actually). I requested the DJ to play New Order and I was suprised he had True Faith. I went back every night and every night he played True Faith, except on the last night when he played Blue Monday. Funny thing was that even after two weeks asking the same question he still would listen to me and reacted as if it was the first time I asked!!

I went into an American Eagle just to listen to Crystal.

I will risk being late to work/school/even my own wedding (god forbid) to listen to a New Order song.

I once emailed a local radio station a request to play Crystal, then sent another request from another email address, and had my (ex) girlfriend do the same. All were sent at strategically placed times throughout the week so as not to conjure up suspicion.

I used to do the PA system at my football club, and I dropped the age-old theme tune "Time is Tight" by Booker T and the MGs in favour of "Regret". I wasn't very popular, even though Central TV were using Regret as their Sunday afternoon live football show theme.

After the original Temptation was released, but before I get ahold of a copy, I would request the local college station play that every day. Also got a couple of friends to call in as well, so for about 3 weeks straight work was made a little bit easier while listening to NO.

I had a girlfriend who was a dancer, and when I told her Regret was my favorite song, she choreographed AND performed a routine to the song in my loungeroom for my "enjoyment". Although I hadn't done anything (except make the faux pas of pissing myself when she started - I thought she was joking), this is the most embarrassed I've ever been. I had to just sit there. We split the next day, and I couldn't listen to Regret for 3 years without thinking of the cow. Every word is true, BTW. CTD

I can't help being incredibly anal when I hear people talk about them. IE a mate said 'Did you know the chemical brothers favourite album is True Faith' and instinctively I said 'Single you mean' immediately.

Last week when I was shopping for a sweater I bought one of those 'fleece' sweaters, very much like the one Barney wore on Later. It reminded me of that one and it was the main reason I bought it. It's pretty ugly and really warm.

You can say that again about Brix! Fave Brix memory: on a bill w/Luxuria, she struck some rock god poses during the gig, and then fell to the floor in her short skirt, kicking her legs in the air, in a mocking disdain for guitar heroes. MES gave his wife barely a sideways glance, and then continued his ranting on 2 x 4. Didn't seem to faze Hanley or Scanlon either. Can't remember laughing so hard at a gig though.

I often go to my local CD store and re-stack those NO Cds so that all of them will be at the front, placed consequentially according to release date....and I like placing the Best of with the Rest of togther ( occasionally together with US version of Best of and also UK 2-CD Rest of ) on the shelves...eventhough I know it'll be mucked up in the next 30 minutes by some other passing customers...

I like to do similar thing to the PSB remastered white-sleeve series, too. I thought they look brilliant being displayed together..

Just some silly obbession of mine.

Oh, the local library always display Movement CD on the 'M' shelf.....so there's me to correct the situation whenever possible.....

I once saw "PC&L" in a cut-price sale in Hanley Woolies in Stoke. Outraged by the fact that this gem was stuck in the bargain basement, coupled with the presence of the actual CD in the box (gormless bastards!), I nicked it on a point of principle.

No Shit!! I always make sure New Order stuff is in well view and in a place of honor at any CD store. One time I found New Edition shit trying to mingle with my Order. I got that useless shit out of there. More recently I've been moving the Crystal single to the front of the 'N' section at Sam Goody, and taking cack off of the display shelf and replacing it with New Order.

Well my fave memory of Brix (oh, better loosen my collar a little bit 'ere...), and probably the most saucy, was seeing her sat on top of a giant hamburger - wasn't that the Curious Oranj gigs they did or something. Back in 1987 or 88 , cant recall exactly which year it was. Bloody hell - did she look cool or what? ;)

I went to a disco this weekend...you know, a disco with several rooms. I was in one room, when I suddenly heard that True Faith was being played in the other room.....and I wanted to run in there and freak out on the dance floor. But I never made it into the other room, cause my legs decided to stumble and my head smashed down into the floor.... Of course I cut my face and my hands on some broken glass lying the exact same place too. Niiiiiice job! Blood all over the place. Now I look like I've been trying to stop a train by standing in front of it or something like that...

my little bit of New Order obsession is as follows.

I was in a club one night, and the DJ was playing "commericial dance" which is code for utter crap. Anyway in the extremely intoxicated state i was in i proceded to request a New Order song from the DJ. He said "never heard of em" , so i cut loose at him, informing him he was "an uncultured swine", anyway, i got more and more frustrated with this wankers ignorance, until i was removed from the venue.

He cited 'Ennio Morricone' as one of his favourite composers, i duly went out and bought an album of his (not having a clue what it would be like!) i forced myself to listen to it a few times before i accepted that i didnt really actually like it!

I didn't know about Barney's admiration for Ennio Morricone, but it makes sense; I always thought 'Eligia' sounded a lot like his music. My favourite is 'Once Upon A Time In The West', it's better in combination with the movie though.

I read that either Barney or Hooky (don't remember which one) really liked Adagio for Strings, by Samuel Barber. I already owned this, and I thought it was pretty cool that someone in New Order liked it.

Fuck I almost forgot !! Many moons ago now my cricket team had finished a game on a Sunday evening, and we called back into our local. Petite elfin-like blonde with serious hair and a loud scarf was stood at the bar, with a spiky-haired Villa scarf-wearing suede-jacketed decidely uncool violinist alongside. Muggins here promptly went across to be alongside them at the bar. Denise of the fine topography came across to serve me. Kennedy goes "oright mate", I blanked him and said "Hello Mrs Smith" :) Then proceeded to spend about 10 mins talking about The Fall (this is 1991, so the schism was still fairly fresh) until said fiddler got bored with being ignored and dragged her over to the quiz machine. Pub was the Lamb and Flag, The Tything, Worcester. Finest Guinness in the land. They had been fairly regular visitors on Sundays by all accounts - we didn't usually finish our cricket so early though, which is why I hadn't seen them before.

I missed my train this morning, because just before i left the house they played Here To Stay on the radio and i thought there was a slim possibility that the presenter would mention some NewOrder news after the track finished.

So i guess im still somewhat obsessed!! ah well

I listen to an utterly rubbish morning chart pop radio show purely cos it uses the opening bars of Regret as link music. And She's Lost Control is my ring tone. Yayyyy!!!

It's not a New Order one, but I always listen to Atmosphere as close to 12:00 on New Year's Eve as I possibly can. Kind of puts things into perspective a bit - you know, we're still here but some people aren't - that sort of thing...

I went to 7 records store in Paris on the 9th december 2002 week every day just to be sure to get a UK limited edition Retro (for the bonus CD of course), which makes more than 30 times... because actually this boxset has been available only on Friday... Now that I told this to some friends... they all think I'm completely crazy.

My story:

Everytime I get into a music store I always ask for something by New Order, something I am sure they do not have, I am just trying (and miserably failing of course) to create the impression that there is a great demand for all things New Order.

And I must confess I also do tidy up New Order's racks. (Apologies to any New Model Army fans), they get shoved in with the Osmonds and the Ozzies.

Yeah, I'm a record store lunatic too. Visit my local HMV every day (sometimes twice) and just rummage through the New Order section. S-A-D.

I was banned from the office internet throughout the autumn and winter 2001/ 2002 because I was opening the Uncut interview for several hours (our connection is bad and our PC is weak). Then everyone except me was using it for their private mails and I had to beg people to let me have a look when the boss wasn't watching.

If my ____ part did not like New Order, I would sever it from my body and throw it in the thrash. Good thing it likes them though... that was a scary couple of days.

look how long this threads been going on... well, since i have been promoted a now am co-director where I work, and have an office I could possible wake up the place a bit, and maybe set up some speakers in my office

Ok...I'm really glad that I am buried deep in this thread because this is really bad....I've done just about everything on this thread but here is my top OCD habit with regard to NO....

I have, for the past 6 and 1/2 years or so been playing backward (on a daily/weekly basis...more about this in a moment) through the combined Electronic and New Order catalouge (I haven't gotten to JD yet!!)

Ok this is how it works...lets say I just get Retro. On day one (say Sunday) I will start by listening to the first track on POP and play forward (when I have a chance, mostly in my car and a little at home) on the boxset until 12 midnight (the beginning of day 2 of the week) at which time I have to go back to song 2 on Retro Pop and play from there forward.

Every week I move up one song...so Sunday of the 2nd week I would start with song 2 on pop and run through starting with song 8 by saturday. The next week I'd start with song 3 on POP on Sunday and work forward. In this manner I get through listening to roughly 52 songs per year.

How do I play through the back catalogue as new material comes out...very simply...the newest item that I get gets started on the Saturday of that week and drops into the rotation. Once the new item has worked its way through the rotation I go back to where I left off before...

Yes it even gets more complicated when you take into account live material etc...and the placeholding has gotten quite complicated over the past year and a half with all of the new material :)

OK so how nuts do you think I am now????

so far the farthest back I've gotten is to the album version of Republic...and yes I've already done the singles and all the attendant mixes from this one....

I can also say that I play NO for other people every chance I get...

My younger brother and many of his friends now own many NO items thanks to my relentless and slavish playing of NO as a teen around them in their formative years(muuhhhahhah)

At a strip club one time several years ago...one of the girls there asked me what music I liked...I ran to my car and got the Regret cd single and brought it back in.

She danced to Regret (Fire Island Mix) and got a damn good tip for that I can tell you. She offered me 5 bucks for the CD and said that she really liked it...I gave it to her for free of course.

I often have NO blaring out of my BMW 7 series as I cruise around...I figure that even subconscious exposure to NO can be healthy for anyone.

A girl I was dating about 2 years ago (she was 19 then..yeah I know I'm a perv ok) was forced to listen to the Regret single when she woke up at my house (thats where I was in the rotation at the time...see the above thread) every morning. She said that she couldn't get the song out of her head and I hear (from friends of course) that she ran out and bought a whole bunch of NO items after that....was it Regret or me? (probably Regret)

I dont know how many kids who are into Orgy I've pulled aside to play them the original BM and many like it better than the cover!!

Last part of this for now...I'm really embarassing myself...

I am getting married in 2 months and many of the songs I'm submitting are from NO. I have to admit its kinda hard to fit the music in to the more cheesy/romantic elements of the wedding...but I'm giving it a go.

My plan (before the Dot Com boom went bust) was to hire NO to perfom at my wedding. I had (on paper at least) enough to pay what that guy in Dallas is rumored to have offered them to play for his Daugher. I figured that I would even be willing to move the wedding to Manchester to make this happen and that they might cut me a break because I'm a true fan and not just trying to "buy" them. They wouldn't even have to actually play at the wedding...they could just do a private concert the day before or after....

Needless to say my master plan failed along with my reason in the slaughter of 2000....

Used to be tin pot crazy about NO in my youth. But as we get older priorities change and we see the world a little differently. Daughters, mortages and in-laws.....Still, NO are entwined in my teenage/early 20's memories, and always will be.

I've been obsessed about NO, the Jam, the Who, PSB, Electronic and some others to stop what I'm doing in a store to go watch the TVs in the a/v section if I've heard something.

I'm not embarassed or ashamed to do it or admit to it, either!

Did put that blue monday remix cd on repeat for the entire shift one night,the staff were pulling their hair out.You know what it's like power corrupts.Obviously didn't succeed in converting them to the order.

I enjoyed this thread quite a bit...:) Its nice to know that there are other new order fanatics out there besides me...if there is one thing my friends typically associate with me besides being absolutely insane, its my obsession with the order. And to all those people out there who feel differently

Shit, even my Mother is a member of this site...claiming that her "...Punk children listen to NO so much that she just had to give in..." (I think that's what her profile says). You missed an excellent opportunity to claim that you had got money off a strip dancer (you need not say the reason why!)

I always said the Weatherall mix was the one. You'd have got an extra 5 minutes on your dance.

I've told this before, but here's the lengths I'm prepared to go regarding my musical obsessions: my son is called Pedro, wich is portuguese for Peter. Of course he was named after that Viking Rock God, Lord Peter of Hook! I must confess, though, that my first choice was Bernardo (self-explanatory, really!), but my missus firmly refused...

when i was playing 'legend of zelda: oracle of ages' on my gameboy, there's a part where you're asked to name the baby in the village. i named it 'hooky'.

I became very agitated in work before, friend shows me a featured review on Retro in q magazine and says you can read in a minute. It took him two hours to finish reading all the crap about Nirvana. That's it.

lately i've started listening to it again every day..

so far since its jan 18, i've heard it every day this year..maybe i'll break my record..
