Tell us your story about your first encounter of NO/ JD.
Of course with me its my passions for PSB and Electronic and their collaborations. I had been a fan of PSB of 4 years now. If I never discovered them, i would not discovered electornic then evolvement into New order/ Joy division.

I first heard Temptation but didn't register who is was by and was then hooked by Blue Monday. I voted PCL but it wasn't really that at all.

pre-Unknown Pleasures. Some strange feedbacky noise on the first Peel Session in early 1979. Bastards. Worse than crack.

Since 1993 but it has nothing to do with Republic, ok?

Since the first time I heard Bizarre Love Triangle... about 1988.

For me, it was my brother's Factus 8 vinyl....loved Temptation on first listen, and still get a buzz from that original 12" version. Looking back, I recall he tried to get me into JD prior to this with UP, Closer & Still, but it didn't stick until after Temptation and then PC&L. Funnily enough, he lost interest in NO/JD around the time of Brotherhood, by which time the passion was fully transferred. He's now into Jethro Tull, the boring old fart. CTB

I discovered their whole discography at once in 1989-1990.  A friend lent me Substance, and two weeks later I rented all their albums in a media library.

Ok I'll say it again. A girl I really liked was into them. This was actually just before Brotherhood. In 87 she went to the UK as a Nanny and I never heard from her again. I'm sure she's still a good sort. But this always happens to me. They either move overseea, or get engaged to someone else.

At least I'm still a fan. I'd never previously heard of the Order.

15th of August 1984, Sunderland Mayfair, England 19 years old & too much to drink !! The memory was a blurr until 12 months ago when a mate I have met since was at the same gig & he taped it !! Memories of dodgy keyboards came flooding back.

The most of you already know so I won't annoy everyone repeating myself (first Joy Division-only fan, then converted straight after Technique but thanks to Blue Monday... bla bla etc.). I just wanna say it's nice to see some people became fans in the most recent years... I'd be curious to read how they became fans, if they just discovered old records in the recent years or if it was the most recent releases that conquered them... I still think Get Ready was an excellent album (though Sirens is even better) and I'd be happy to read some people became New Order fans because of Crystal...

i bought Unknown Pleasures back in 1982. i had never heard of the band but i was instantly attracted by the album covers (so unique and cool) and just took a chance and bought that album. later that year i bought the other records and singles... all the record store clerks told me about JD was that i liked depressing stuff... i never even heard about Ian for another year...

then in early 1983 i bought 1981-82 EP, just because it was in the Joy Division record bin, even thou i had no idea who New order was, just i hoped there was a connection to JD... and it grew on me. bought Blue Monday when it came out even thou i wasnt even sure what the heck it was! then i saw an Rough Trade ad for PC&L in Trouser Press, and looked very hard til i found PC&L... and was very excited when i played it

1998 would be a good guess time wise but didn't know they were back together with Get Ready. Borrowed it off my brother, shoved it in my PC and let it play whilst playing SC2K. After three or four tracks, I went back to play Crystal again, and bought a copy of it within days.

wouldnt have to be exactly what album, it would the the era, like 1993, but not Republic, well, just call it Republic era if you want ;)

Joy Division - LWTUA, One Sunday night during the fall of 1980.

I was first exposed to them in 84/85 by my college roommate who had PCL and Lowlife, but I didn't really become a huge fan until I heard Shellshock off of the Pretty in Pink album. I soon after purchased Brotherhood and then Substance. So I guess I've been a fan since 1986.

Had a chance to see them in I think 1985 at the Akron Agora, but something came up, however a friend who went said the show was awful, they played a short set and Barney had one of his piss off days. Damn, I wish I could have gone.

I was familiar with New Order's hit singles for all of my life, but never really bothered to look into their music much further. It wasn't until "Crystal" hit MTV that I got hypnotized by NO. Get Ready was my first official NO record and it totally floored me. To this day, I still think it's their best record.

As for Joy Division, I knew of the band through The Crow comics and movie, but hadn't gotten into them until after I discovered New Order.

The Sirens call was The Beach taped off of KUNI. Thank God Bob Dorr mentioned the title and artist. 1983/4?

PCL for me , saw the cover and it spoke to me - sounds weird but every cover since has done the same ( except perhaps some of the more recent ones ). From then , to coin a phrase "I was hooked."

Playing PCL for hour after hour on a scratchy old record player - makes me feel weird just thinking about it. It seems a lifetime ago now !! I then did the same with TLU and loved that great sleeve. Forgive me - I am falling down the rabbit hole back to my youth.

I guess I got into NO around when crystal came out (I thought that video was so fucking cool). But the first NO album I got was technique - I read a short article on NO's career in some music magazine (probably now defunct like they all are), and it called technique a masterpiece. I wasn't disappointed. I was alos into Les Rythmes Digitales (Darkdancer is fantastic 80's heaven), and I bought a Jacques Lu Cont mix album, which had 586 on it. So Had to go buy PCL obviously. Then I read somewhere that LowLife was NO's best albums, so had to get that.... ironically Get Ready was the last NO album proper that I bought. And no, never seen em live, grr...

Since BEFORE i had UNKNOWN PLEASURES.It is strange to think that back then i KNEW they were different and good but i NEVER thought nearly 28 years later i would still be listening to them without them being a GOLDEN OLDIE like LED ZEPPELIN and THE DOORS are for me!WEIRD...a bit like their DAFT fans. GET A LIFE...GET LOW LIFE!

I had heard LWTUA in 1980 & loved it but at 11/12 I was a bit too young to appreciate JD then.

After the interview I used to scour the Smash Hits charts page to see if NO had anything coming out - so I knew the names of their songs (ETG Temptation) before ever hearing them. Couldnt get any of their stuff in the locak record shop in Finglas tho'.

Then, months later I heard BM on medium wave BBC1 on the Tuesday lunchtime chart show & LOVED IT - I was home sick so I gave my Dad the pocket money to buy it for me. Hours later he returned complaining that it cost far more 'cause it was some kind of album!? That was my first introduction to 12" singles

I remember feeling cheated after the first listen - an album just for a song & Its instrumental!!! - but before the afternoon was out I was hooked - why couldnt every single be a 12" - the depth of sound was SO GOOD, on , or filling up the room, I had never heard anything so wonderfull before.
