Just picked up the NME free CD with I Told Your Soap on ... Holy moly is 4:09 in the biggest audio clanger ever dropped? - the entire track vanishes for a nano-second.
This has been mentioned before by a downloader but this CD is the real baloney.
4:09 kids, get checking.

Yup, just got it home for 1st time & 4:09/4:10 has a gap alright.
As my brother the builder (Ricky the Brickie) says "that'll be a feature" - we should be paying extra for that
Good song tho' - sounds far better this way than on the BBC excerpt.

Very very pleased to hear your thoughts. I find it confusing that so many haven't expressed just how beautiful this track is, and how it captures all of the qualities of their insular moments; LMA, TMW etc.

couldn't answer you that one H. Of the 5 tracks I've heard so far, I've been pretty impressed by them all to be honest, even Krafty's started hitting the spot. But WFTSC is far and away the best.

Well that seems odd, the NME disk surely is a bonafide item? ... what's the point of having such an audio mishap on that?
As it stands, I would have been better downloading a version the old fashioned way.

Oooh that's a bad glitch at 4:09. Hope they've fixed that on the album release. "I Told You So" is quite a surprising experiment. It's quite good in a reggae/rock crossover type stylee but needs a catchier chorus. Did anyone else think they were about to merge it into Happy Mondays "Wrote For Luck" at a couple of points ? Sounds like a Soulwax remix idea to me.
There was a band called Boo Radleys who had a brilliant reggae/rock song on an album called Giant Steps about 10 years ago. Songtitle escapes me at the moment.

yeah quite like it - think it's a decent song without ever likely to be one of my favourites.
Talking of Rock/reggae, Grand National did a couple of decent songs on their last album doing it.

I have been deliberating how to properly appraise the track P - I hadn't forgotten to write a potted review.
The main stumbling block is that I wanted the 'is this average' mood to pass; unfortunately it hasn't. I do not enjoy being negative so I'll steer from this path.
When I first heard Guilty Parsnips and Round the Bend pre-Technique I kept playing and playing and playing and playing the tracks. In short, they were touching and sensational. I played Soap last night and thought, mmm ... this is o-k-a-y, and then I didn't' play it again until this morning in my motion generator.
Its not a bad track, but its not an outstanding New Order song. It isn't as good as any song on Technical Lego which, obviously, isn't the best news to have been announced in the last minute (and I keep mentioning this album as I feel the vibe of the Sirens shares a kindred spirit).
Some Electronic material is overly complex using 'soft' synthesized sounds and effects, I feel Soapy suffers the same loss of direction. It's absolutely fine to get carried away with music as the old 12"s did (Sub-Culture, Shame of the Nation, Bizarre Right Angle etc.) but only if the song has majesty and beauty, and the melodies are up to scratch. Soap just slithers and melts into mediocrity - it could have been called I Told You to Skip the track. Running Bernard's vocal track through a distortion pedal doesn't help either.
In summary, its a bit like an average Electronic track. 3/10. It is very similar to the rap one off The Republican (the vocal sound almost the same). This Song could be added to the new category associated with New Order; the not-so-good songs.
On an upper - the other songs I've heard: WFTSC and Krispy Duck gain a 10 and a 7 respectively. Which ain't so bad.
Well, H, that's not the best news I've had this morning. I recognize the "busy" quality you refer to in some Electronic stuff. I actually have something of a soft spot for Times Change. In any event, early reactions from those who've heard the full-length Call did not identify this one as among the best, so all I can do is be patient and hopeful.

Times Change I think is actually better than Soapy. I too have a certain inner respect for it, although mainly the bits that aren't rap orientated.
Well, I will still probably make one or more excursions next week in search of the exotic NME so that I can experience the fabled 4:09 gap for myself.
