Query for the live recording gurus out there..
I'll be attending a few NewOrder shows in January, possibly armed with a recordable portable MiniDisc player (which I quite fortuitously won recently). I figure I'll need to equip it with a half decent mike.. Is there anyone out there with tips for achieving better quality recordings? The player is a midrange unit- how good is the sound gonna be?

i did a recording of the Bob Dylan concert early this year, with my MiniDisc (Sony MZ-R55), and a pretty decent mic i borrowed from a mate. The recording wasn't bad, a bit too much treble if anything, so i put it onto the computer and frigged around in "Cool Edit" till i got it sounding nice, then onto CDR, sounds pretty good for a first.
For some more info try the "alt.music.bootlegs" newsgroup, they are very knowledgble on the topic, and there is a FAQ aswell, but i can't find the link, just ask them.
If your thinking of doing the BDO i wouldn't bother, you whould have to stand too far back out of the mosh to get a "skip-free" recording, and the sound isn't good for recording back there.
