New Order Pledges North American Shows

New Order bassist Peter Hook says the pioneering rock act plans to play "as many shows as we can" in North America this year, in lieu of the limited appearances the band made here in support of its 2001 album, "Get Ready." As previously reported, New Order will on April 12 release its latest Warner Bros. set, "Waiting for the Sirens' Call."

"We felt very guilty for not coming to America last time," Hook tells Billboard.com. "We only did Moby's [Area: One tour], which was before the album came out. That left us feeling quite annoyed with ourselves, because we realized how important our support in America has been to us. We wanted to make sure this time that the first thing we do is come over here. We're doing Coachella and then we'll do some dates in Chicago and New York."

Hook says the band has already begun rehearsing material from the new album, as well as a host of extra tracks that did not make the final cut. He also reveals that New Order may revive a host of back catalog gems for the first time in ages, but that the time constraints of a typical festival set are making decisions tough.

"We've all been listening to the older stuff and realizing that we'd love to play songs like 'This Time of Night,' 'Leave Me Alone,' 'The Village,' 'Thieves Like Us' and 'Perfect Kiss,'" he says. "But god knows how we're going to do that. I honestly can't figure it out, because with festivals, you only get to play for an hour usually."

Although not all of the dates are confirmed, New Order is expected to appear at such summer U.K. festivals as Glastonbury, Oxegen and T in the Park.

I have just read this in another thread here.Very interesting about the old songs.And i would dearly love NEW ORDER to play for our AMERICAN friends in more places than just the desert.Be great for you lot if this comes off.

Quite fancy a wee jaunt to NY in May. I've always wanted to visit NY and with the incentive of seeing the Order playing it seems too good an opportunity to miss. Fooking hell how good would it be to hear Leave Me Alone, The Village, Thieves etc. Throw in Age of Consent and i would die a happy man.

UT Performing Arts Center-Bass Concert Hall just saw DuranDuran there (yea keep laughing) but they ripped it up better than you

Austin Music Hall La Zona Rosa (very small club would be amazing though-ask Primal Scream how they liked it....or don't maybe they didn't, but I did)

been hoping since 1989 I think it was (at Astroworld amusement park no less, for Technique) to see them again

If you can see, most US fans are either from California or TEXAS! The Californians got their Coachella, now it's time for Texas (that's New Order's favourite state - since they had played it here more than anywhere else in NA).

And come on - Chicago and New York it's not a *US tour*, it's just two concerts in two cities. If they really want a NA tour, then besides Chicago & NYC, they would give a few more concerts - in Canada, Texas, for example. California has its Coachella already.

Well everything sucks but Austin (hippies) and Irving (the Dallas Cowboys). I know first-hand from my sister that San Antonio is a crappy place to live.

Sorry, but when I talk to my sister she always tells me the things she hates about San Antonio (mostly the school district system and the layout of the city), but she has had some cool experiences like going to a friend's ranch and seeing zebras. If it was up to her, she'd come back to CA or go to France ASAP.

the real irony here is they say the regret not playing more dates in the States with the exception of Area:One but they're playing FEWER dates this time!!! Somehow they try to do us right but they still fart in our general direction. Classic!
