amsterdam trip

need help from all dutch N.O. fans i'm going to amsterdam in january can anyone recommend what clubs to check out. i've been to 'mazzo' which was v.good.

any ideas much appreciated

Nick, I have been out of the whole clubbing thing a few years now, but when I lived in Amsterdam (around 4 years ago) I often went to Melkweg and Paradiso, which are basically places where they usually have concerts but Fridays and Saturdays are clubnights, good atmosphere. Escape at Rembrandtplein is pretty expensive and commercial. I also liked House Of Soul (used to be Soulkitchen) where they play soul, funk, jazz etc. A bit out of the center is West Pacific at the Westergasfabriek (old gas factory), which is quite trendy. There's a place called THE ROXY down the bottom of Kalverstraat (City's main pedestrianised shopping street), near the Munt Toren. They have an indie night once a week I think, and different stuff every other day. never been myself though - just knew about it in passing. You will love Amsterdam - I want to move there as soon as I can.... ;)

Mr. Gray, I'm sorry to inform you that the infamous RoXy (the Dutch Hacienda, but different) burnt down a couple of years ago. A great loss.

The Odeon is a good alternative. It's at one of the canals (Singel, somewhere in the 400's) and has three stories with different atmospheres. Paradiso and Melkweg are also recommended. If you'd like to go beyond Amsterdam, visit Tivoli in Utrecht. Great club, great crowd.

Yep, Young Offender is absol. right! Tivoli in Utrecht is a very nice place. And so is de Vloer in U. as well. And besides the clubs i can al;so recommend some nice coffeeshops: Rusland. Transkei. What also can be very nice is The Arena(and i do not mean that horrible ajaxfootieground) a.k.a Sleep-inn, it isclose to the Tropenmuseum.

Fuck me!! Did It really burn down??? I went past it in May 1999 and it was still apparently open then - bloody hell I honestly never noticed that it had been shut. What was the cause of the fire??

Shows how much I pass by the place even when I AM in Amsterdam - I mean, I walk past it every time to I head for the Easy-Everything Internet Cafe on Reguliersbreestraat but never even batted an eyelid at it. Blimey - it's gone! Jeezus. Thanks for kindly informing me of this. :)

The Tropenmuseum - a brilliant place for a day out! Top attraction that!

And also the Kattenkabinet on Herengracht, recommended if you love ogling loads of pussies. (I do). It's these more unusual attractions away from the commercial ones that makes Amsterdam a city so full of surprises, despite how much one thinks one knows about its more celebrated things.

Make a note of all these Shug - yer in charge for the summer excursion......

Also go to the Marihuana musuem, and get cable in your hotel room so you can watch the hardcore porno channel.
