Ian Curtis biopic (who should direct?)

Well, I'd say Kubrick, but he's dead, so that leaves some room for possible candidates for the job. technically the guy who bought the rights to Debbie's book (happy birthday to her btw) would have the say on director, but who would the New Order-ites here like to see direct? I got a few suggestions:

1. Danny Boyle..Plus: Directed Trainspotting, the best film about pop-culture obessessed heroin junkies from Scotland. Minus: everything he's done since then 2.Speilberg...Plus: brilliant resume, more than enough clout to get a US release. Minus: Might turn Ian's story inot a sentimental tripe ala ET ("Ian phone home", I can just see the alien and Curtis sharing a heartfelt goodbye)
2. Oliver Stone..Plus: Proved he could do a decent rock movie with the Doors. Minus: How many conspiracy theories could he use for Ian's story? Plus, Jim Morrison emerged as a self-important boob, would oliver do the same to Ian?

and my pick 4. Imgmar Bergman...Pluses: Fantastic Swedish director whose style (I'm thinking of Wild Strawberries, where the old guy has flashbacks and nightmares) would be perfect for explaining Ian's life. It would be set on Ian's last night alive, at some point he'd leave the house and walk around Manchester, reliving old memories. I think that would be good Minus: The man hasen't done a film since '83, he's 80-something, and he might not get JD

isnt danny boyle keen to do it? im sure i heard something about him being involved. as for him being shite since "trainspotting", there was talk a few months ago about some apparently brilliant one off drama he did for the bbc, with chris eccleston. did anyone see it?

I included Danny because back when talk of a JD film first developed (pre-24 Hour Party People), his was the name tossed around as the most likely to do it. As for shit since Trainspotting, I mean that in the nicest way, he sold out and started doing Hollywood Movies. Life Less Ordinary? Crap. The Beach? I'm sure it's shit.

What if it's done by someone great, like Bergman (not that he'd likely come out of retirement for it). I could see it done with dream sequences, like I said earlier. Of course if Stone did it, he'd have to have a conspiracy to off Ian: The bottle of whisky, rope, and record player with Iggy's album all conspired to do him in...(just being silly, but Stone might actually go with that. The FBI and CIA would have to be involved, of course)

Christopher Nolan - director of Following and Memento. I think he could achieve mass fuckupedness and create something truly intoxicating for the eyes and ears, and those people who just don't know. Plus he is skilled with a small budget.
