Temptation: Best Live Performance??? — Forum Archive

I was wandering what you folks thought was their best live performance of this track as I wanted to load it onto my MP3 Player for my holiday.

Any ideas??

There are so many good ones to choose from. I do like the Taras one, because it shows the song in its infancy.

Yes, it's fascinating to hear such a familiar song being played before it was written, so to speak.

You need at least three, really. Taras, an early gig and a recent one with all the polish and production.

See if you can get a grab of the schoolgirl singing it in the shower in Trainspotting as well - would round the set off nicely!

I always liked the Riverside one, performed a day or two before they went into the studio and recorded it I believe.

I do agree with the idea that you need a few different performances from different eras, so also I would go for the Hacienda performance shown on Play At Home and the 98 version

The Montreux Jazz Festival 1993 version! Top-notch, my favorite. :clap:

The other great one is from Reading '98 (as on the 60 Mile An Hour EP). :music:

Both are perfect.

This always changes fer me. Reading 89 & 93 are brilliant, but not as good as 98. The performance on Rock Around The Clock is magical as is the version on Academy. Montreux has also been mentioned already.

Any of these really, cos off the top of my head I can't think of any inparticular bootleg concert.

I'm tempted (heehee!) to say Birmingham 9/4/85, as this was the show where Temptation finally got me, I'd never really liked it before this time, and there was something special about the performance this night, something magical that lifted was above the ordinary. More sincere than Howard Jones, and twice as cheap, no less!

I used to have an mp3 of a great early intsrumental version that someone on here kindly sent me. It's 3rd outing i do believe.

Unfortunately, I lost it in a Hard Disk burn out.

Does any one have a copy they could send me?

If so I'll post my email.

I've only been to 6 of their gigs but Temptation was performed each time. It's always a highlight for me and I don't think a show would feel complete without it.

I concur. Crowd went ballistic and I couldn't keep my feet on the beer sodden floor. Out of 3 times I've seen them in Sheffield 2 have been absolute classic gigs that I will remember on my death bed.

Uni and The Roxy are both in my top 5 gigs of all time.

The 3rd gig you must be talking about is the horrible night at the City Hall.

Again, I concur.Travelled down early doors from Bradford and couldn't find a bloody pub open at 5.30pm(old licensing laws) that twat from abc introducing, the order on early and I was back in Dewsbury for last orders. 2 out of 3 aint bad though.

Temptation live?.Taras Shev mate.Years ahead of it`s time.The Sheff Roxy gig was a classic.The perfect NO gig.Later that year i went to the Wembley Arena gig .Worst EVER New Order gig.Was so pissed off at being stuck in a seat after the dancefloor mayhem at The Roxy.Riled me for years that fuckin Wembley fiasco.

Wembley.Less said the better.Kicked out by over enthusiastic security(twice!). Nice running battle outside at the end with Order fans trying to get back in before the encore finished.

Still cant fathom why New Order never headlined the City Hall show. I also got in the venue early...but also got out early as I really didnt fancy stopping to be bored by ABC or lectured by Billy Bragg.

I managed to grab a few pints of Wards and catch Cabaret Voltaire at the Leadmill who were superb.

Dont get me talking about Wembley :ignore:
