Don't know how many RH fans there are here, but I'll ask anyway, for the hell of it: if you had to pick one Radiohead album as your favorite, whcih would it be? I'll try and keep track of the votes. Here's what you have to choose from: Pablo Honey (1992) The Bends (1995) OK Computer (1997) Kid A (2000) Amnesiac (2001)
I'm goin with: The Bends
Bends 3 Rest of World 0
Pablo Honey is the worst. I'd put them in the following order.
The Bends OK Computer Amnesiac Kid A Pablo Honey
Yeah, PH has little to recommend it. Some great tunes, but not a great album on the whole (3 for the Bends)
I loved "The Bends" and for a very long time it was my fave Radiohead album.
However, because they are so bloody-minded I've now decided to nominate "Amnesiac" as they're best - chiefly because it seems to piss off so many of the "OK Computer" contingent.
So - "Amnesiac" it now is. And "Pyramid Song" is fast becoming their best ever single IMHO.
Here is the way to rank them, fellers.
O.K. Computer (brilliant songs, perfectly arranged)
The Bends (brilliant songs, not as cohesive or coherent)
Kid A (brilliant songs, a little filler and too experimental)
Amnesiac (brillant songs and a lot of filler, but the live version of Like Spinning Plates is earth shattering, check it out)
The Creep Album (thinking about you is a great song)

in that order. i don't count the other 2 because quite frankly i think they're shite. radiohead used to be such a fab band - what the hell do they think they're doing????
Expanding their musical horizons? I think Amnesiac's more of a grower. I didn't like it much when I got it, but as the months wore on I got into it....
Martin I'll have to think long and hard about a perfect RH lp, but I'll get something.

OK Computer/Kid A/Amnesiac tied for second
In 95 (i think) I waited in line for 6hrs for REM tickets. 7th row center. not bad, not front, but not bad. Radiohead made them look like tired, old fools. Simpletons. I was into the Bends before the show but after that, I was hooked. So much power and emotion. They had a good grasp on capturing a mood with their performance.

CREEP has always been a great Radiohead song but as they say, overfamiliarity really did put me off it in the end.
That's why I left it off the list. No other reason really.... 
Creep's a good one, but they have far better selections in their catlogue (Fake Plastic Trees springs to mind), and people still identify them with that one song. Kinda like New Order and Blue Monday, no wonder both bands got tired of playing it (though RH have done Creep live at some recent shows)

Candy, Don't you consider "I might be wrong" and "Dollars and Cents" and "Packt" to be real songs? Granted "Packt" is this album's "Idioteque" and not as catchy, it's close enough for government work :) I'll admit I don't like "You and whose army" and I don't listen to "Pyramid Song" that often but the latter is stunningly beautiful!
I was just grooving on "I might be wrong" and "Knives out" last night, and quite pathetically trying to learn them on the guitar. You play guitar, don't you, Candy? Don't those songs make you want to pick one up? Radiohead just gets me excited about music. Maybe give another listen? And substitute the live "Like Spinning Plates" for the album version!

as i said before, amnesiac is shite. ok it's shite apart from knives out which i actually consider to be a song. the rest are just noise - probably intending to be experimental noise with a deep symbolic meaning that i haven't seen yet - but at the moment i don't consider it to be worth listening to.

Come on - you're being greedy, expecting all those as encores!!! The only band I've seen who do that much encores is/was The Cure , who actually played the main set on their 1989 "Disintegration tour" then followed it with another 90 minutes of back-to-back encores entirely consisting of crowd-pleasing favourites from the past. Their gigs on that tour totalled over three hours each! Fucking unbelievable (although if they did that now, they'd be seen to be outstaying their welcome by about three hours too long!!!)!

I've seen Radiohead play 8 songs in an encore before. Maybe 9 is being greedy though !

I haven't done any from Get Ready - the only New Order tabs I have are Regret and As It Is When It Was. I'll dig out these Radiohead ones and send them thru.

It's a tie between The Bends and OK Computer I suppose....
Never got to a gig of theirs though, which is regrettable - but then they always sell out before i even have a chance to get hold of a ticket.

I really loved it when they weren't ashamed of writing beautiful songs...
easily OK computer. Karma POlice and No suprises are the pinnacle of Radiohead IMO. Not a huge fan of anything they've done before or after.
OK Computer. First six tracks are brilliant. Takes a dip, but then you get No Surprises and Lucky to come
I think "Climbing Up The Walls" is fucking awesome - so powerful.
The whole emotional context and sheer scabrous sound of that song sums up my current predicament beautifully.
A perfect Radiohead track listing can be mixed and matched in any way as long as there is one song that is on every combination - LET DOWN

Something's is bothering me about Radiohead. Well, a little, anyway...
I like them, I really. In fact, I've met Thom twice and those were really nice moments.
But I think it's annoying how so many people have to call them the greatest band of the planet, the saviors of rock/pop music, all that shit...
I don't think it does them service. I don't think they like that either.
Can't we just say they're an amazing band (especially live) and let them breathe ?
They have become some kind of a sacred cow and that's never good for anyone, in my opinion.
My favorite Radiohead has always been the one when they're not afraid of writing amazing songs, of letting all the emotions go.
They have great songs, put out incredible live performances and the rest, to me, is just bullshit.

Well observed Buster , I too like Radiohead but I am not a rabid fan . I also found OK Computer way way too overrated by almost everybody - seeing it in all these top 5's just made me think they'd all lost their sense of perspective. It really isn't THAT groundbreaking an album. So they're all making it out to be something greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps that explains why the band decided to change their direction so radically - as if they too were embarrassed by all the false plaudits being heaped on them every which way. I know I would have done likewise....

Sorry - have been away for quite some time, so I've just seen your response. Yeah, I play guitar, and yeah, maybe I've been a bit rash in my assessment of "Amnesiac" (NO!! me? rash and dismissive?). I will say that Radiohead do (to the average fan such as myself) appear to have had trouble coming up with the goods post-OK Computer, and therefore have pumped out some avant-garde stuff instead, which is by definition difficult to critique.
There are some good tracks on Kid A, and to a lesser extent Amnesiac, but none that excite me as much as say "My Iron Lung", "Airbag" or "Just" in terms of gotta-go-get-my-guitar. Just an opinion, but an honest one.

He's Australian Sarah, one of the rare goth breed of Oz who fell behind the rest of the world. Thankfully most of the east/south east Oz members on here are sane !
Even though "OK Computer" has some brilliant moments (Paranoid Android, Let Down,No Surprises), overall I find The Bends their best CD. It's the most consistent. Kid A and Amnesiac I have listened to a number of times when they came out, but these are albums I have not played for a while, and I doubt if I will ever get into them...Hopefully they will get through this experimental phase and write SONGS again.

Fave, or most played Radiohead disc, would be OK Computer, with The Bends a close second.
Don't watch SNL much anymore, so I was flipping channels the other day and caught their performance of The National Anthem on Comedy Central. Very good performance indeed.

OK Computer. It has the best tracks, most consistent and is very easy to listen to. I don't have to work myself up to it like Amnesiac!
I really like Amnesiac, but then again I'm a big jazz fan, and so much of their more recent work has got an amazing feel to it. It would be great if they would really take this jazz element and bring it to the fore.
CTD, I can understand where you're coming from but I get excited about the evolution that Radiohead has gone through in terms of their songwriting and arrangements. But I don't like the tin can juggling and gargling underwater symphonies myself. I really dig the guitar from I might be wrong. And the chord structure to "knives out". I know it's a simple progression but I can't help it. They've come a long way from the three chords of "creep."
And props for catching up with old posts, most of the time I can't remember where I've been ranting.
