Don't know how many RH fans there are here, but I'll ask anyway, for the hell of it: if you had to pick one Radiohead album as your favorite, whcih would it be? I'll try and keep track of the votes. Here's what you have to choose from: Pablo Honey (1992) The Bends (1995) OK Computer (1997) Kid A (2000) Amnesiac (2001)
I'm goin with: The Bends
Bends 3 Rest of World 0
Pablo Honey is the worst. I'd put them in the following order.
The Bends OK Computer Amnesiac Kid A Pablo Honey
Yeah, PH has little to recommend it. Some great tunes, but not a great album on the whole (3 for the Bends)
I loved "The Bends" and for a very long time it was my fave Radiohead album.
However, because they are so bloody-minded I've now decided to nominate "Amnesiac" as they're best - chiefly because it seems to piss off so many of the "OK Computer" contingent.
So - "Amnesiac" it now is. And "Pyramid Song" is fast becoming their best ever single IMHO.
Here is the way to rank them, fellers.
O.K. Computer (brilliant songs, perfectly arranged)
The Bends (brilliant songs, not as cohesive or coherent)
Kid A (brilliant songs, a little filler and too experimental)
Amnesiac (brillant songs and a lot of filler, but the live version of Like Spinning Plates is earth shattering, check it out)
The Creep Album (thinking about you is a great song)

Actually - I think we should compile our IDEAL Radiohead LP - just like all you obsessives have been doing at such great length with the ORDER - then perhaps I can follow it up with a STEREOLAB Fantastic 50 as well.

In any case, I'll go with The Bends as well. I never quite understood all the hype surrounding OK Computer or Kid A.

in that order. i don't count the other 2 because quite frankly i think they're shite. radiohead used to be such a fab band - what the hell do they think they're doing????
Expanding their musical horizons? I think Amnesiac's more of a grower. I didn't like it much when I got it, but as the months wore on I got into it....
Martin I'll have to think long and hard about a perfect RH lp, but I'll get something.

OK Computer/Kid A/Amnesiac tied for second
In 95 (i think) I waited in line for 6hrs for REM tickets. 7th row center. not bad, not front, but not bad. Radiohead made them look like tired, old fools. Simpletons. I was into the Bends before the show but after that, I was hooked. So much power and emotion. They had a good grasp on capturing a mood with their performance.

CREEP has always been a great Radiohead song but as they say, overfamiliarity really did put me off it in the end.
That's why I left it off the list. No other reason really.... 
Creep's a good one, but they have far better selections in their catlogue (Fake Plastic Trees springs to mind), and people still identify them with that one song. Kinda like New Order and Blue Monday, no wonder both bands got tired of playing it (though RH have done Creep live at some recent shows)

You must have a different version of Amnesiac to me, Iain - my copy barely has anything near a recognisable song on it (except Knives Out, which is great).
Also, can I put a vote in for "Bishop's Robes" on the "Now that's what I call Radiohead" album?

Candy, Don't you consider "I might be wrong" and "Dollars and Cents" and "Packt" to be real songs? Granted "Packt" is this album's "Idioteque" and not as catchy, it's close enough for government work :) I'll admit I don't like "You and whose army" and I don't listen to "Pyramid Song" that often but the latter is stunningly beautiful!
I was just grooving on "I might be wrong" and "Knives out" last night, and quite pathetically trying to learn them on the guitar. You play guitar, don't you, Candy? Don't those songs make you want to pick one up? Radiohead just gets me excited about music. Maybe give another listen? And substitute the live "Like Spinning Plates" for the album version!

as i said before, amnesiac is shite. ok it's shite apart from knives out which i actually consider to be a song. the rest are just noise - probably intending to be experimental noise with a deep symbolic meaning that i haven't seen yet - but at the moment i don't consider it to be worth listening to.

Come on - you're being greedy, expecting all those as encores!!! The only band I've seen who do that much encores is/was The Cure , who actually played the main set on their 1989 "Disintegration tour" then followed it with another 90 minutes of back-to-back encores entirely consisting of crowd-pleasing favourites from the past. Their gigs on that tour totalled over three hours each! Fucking unbelievable (although if they did that now, they'd be seen to be outstaying their welcome by about three hours too long!!!)!
