that's really interesting. i actually think that's a good reason to change to avoid offending people about the tsunami. though offending people in general is probably not a great reason to change course. hope one day we'll get to see the original cover, and maybe a re-release of the album with the original cover???

What a shame, the original concept sounds excellent, it would have been a great artwork, just think a title like this with an image like that... perfect... They could have replaced the Asian woman with a blonde or something... I mean a waterfall isn't even that near to a tsunami, is it? I don't think the most of the people would have complained, maybe a couple of paranoids, but who cares... This band placed a kid from the Hitler Youth on their first release and now they don't even dare to show a woman behind a waterfall... I mean, I'm sorry about the tsunami and everything, but don't tell me Jetstream won't have an airplane on the cover for the fear of offending victims of September 11... Art has a dignity of its own and it shouldn't be so much influenced by reality... And why replace the original cover with this stupid lettering? They could have thought of something else to match the beauty of the original... Let's make our own Sirens' cover for our CDs with the MP3 tracks... let's search for images of women behind waterfalls and post them here... we'll print our favourites and use them for our CDs... This is the first I found... any better?

Sorry, but using such a literal image just isn't befitting a band as self-consciously oblique as New Order.

Besides, Roxy Music already beat 'em to it (and probably did a better job).

To make it properly oblique it should have been Barney in a bikini underneath the waterfall.

That would've been for Waiting for the Dinner's Bell, though...

It could have been an extension of the Get Ready idea, mind you.

The thing is, it sounds alright, but you have no idea what the composition or colour use or etc would have been like.. for example Get Ready is so disctinctive because of the clash between the red and the greyscale. So.. it could have been utter shit or a work of genius. I wonder whether we'll ever find out..!

To be honest, I like the artwork anyway, so I'm not complaining.

It's a shame though really, the covers tend to give an album a certain feel. The Krafty cover IMO is great, it's a shame the album won't have a nice cover to go along with the rest of the singles :(

Do you think they could change it? Or would this involve to much work and money?

And to think the Manics played "Tsunami" at the Tsunami Benefit Gig in Cardiff.....

Total bollocks Mick. The Siren is the mythical caller of seafarers to their doom, so anything depicting asian women, the power of water and referring to impending doom is a bit insensitive. They have done the right thing. Jetstream would only be offensive if it showed a plane crashing into the Twin Towers.
