I went into JB Hi-Fi yesterday in Melbourne - they had a rather moody laminated white background/orange No etc. promotional poster up on the wall.

They reckon 27th March for long-player and the single, but no idea of formats &c.

HMV have a pre-order label in the New Order racks in Melbourne, and a divider in the CD singles racks but no stock as yet.

Heard 3RR played Road to Ruin at the end of last week - sounded spiffing.

The wait's doing my brain in!!

Yeh I got that NME.  Keep looking out at the newsstands.  The Q with the Cash for questions should be arriving soon.  The next NME should be the one that is meant to have that Turn cd, the next Mojo should have the album review (BTW get the currenct Mojo with big JD/NO feature). There is also an I think its Uncut mag special issue on electronic music that features New Order on a few pages, but at $23 the airfreight version is too expensive.  And then there's the the NME with the review coming up.  So plenty more at your newsagent for the next month or so.

Is there an NME with a CD that features 'Turn'?

The issue previous to our current one (with NO feature) should've been the NME Awards issue with the "I Told You So" CD. I seem to have missed that one however so now I'm tracking down back issues.

Well its probably I Told You So.  I'm not perfect.  But I'm pretty sure its the next issue, and not the previous one.

Dc will be 'waiting for the sirens call' every weekend for the next 22 weeks - the last quarter siren that is!

This siren will herald the end to the torture his beloved Hawks will endure each week, limping from the turf in a haze of blood, sweat and hair product.

Footy's back, New Order are back, chockies on the weekend, holidays - not a bad time of the year, this!

The Krafty single is 'likely'.

May be worth tuning into the 2005 show on JJJ this Sunday to hear what Richard Kingsmill has to say about the Australian releases. Expect he'll have an interview too in the next few weeks.

Album, single and harrassment all received - all good and well.

A few comments; the single appears to have slightly different artwork to the others I've seen (bluish colour, no star-shaped reflective glare off car in cover photo, and font different to UK but the same as album cover font); also a bit strange (but ace) to have a single in a standard CD album jewel case (not a slimline CD single one); nice album booklet with foldy-outy bits and a picture of a bunny (coz it's easter - see what they did there?).

Overall the album sounds brighter and fresher (presumably due to mastering) but tracks otherwise more or less identical to the promo (drums, particularly the floor tom on Turn, sound better - presumably this is the 'new drum' version). Both the single and the album had a flyer advertising a list of NO poly ringtones for those of us with GPRS/WAP phones - Krafty sounds suitably naff as a ringtone.

Album was cheap ($21.99), JB display had already been nicked by some wag...

The Krafty single cover is identical to the UK CD2 - just performed an amateur comparison right here in the dC lab.

Do you agree that the design concept of the artwork makes more sense with all the foldouts and images? It really looks spanking on that supposed 'official site' website thread too. And can you imagine how excited Huntsman will be when he discovers the rabbit smack bang in the middle of proceedings?

I'm perusing said ringtone flyer as we speak. Can't see a reference to a website where I can try before I buy. There's a fair cache of tones to choose from - 16 in fact.

This is the first I've heard suggesting that the actual album might be different from the promo; anybody else agree that there are differences? Unfortunately I don't yet have the actual release.

Patsy I wouldn't take CTB's word as gospel, however he does have a very accommodating set of ursine earholes on him.

I can't detect much in the way of audio difference from the common promo, save of course the superior quality. However, I'm about to run it through the ultra-high fidelity spectrometer here at the dC Lab to check for subliminal sonic variants and the like. Will keep you appraised.

There are gaping differences to the version that Old Blue was boldly proclaiming to be the final master, ie the Ana-less mix. Don't know if you cut yourself a slice of that particular cake, knowing your fear of the FBI.

No, DC, what I have been listening to is the physical promo CD album in a cardboard cover with what I assume is the final cover art.

I assumed that this would be identical in terms of content to the actual release.

If it is not, I will have a reaction that is both hard to imagine and hard to describe.

As much as I'd very much like to witness that reaction, I suspect you'll be able to keep it in the box.

Just savour the lavish artwork when your FedEx man finally rocks up.

By the way, DC, do you have a ready answer to the question, what's your favorite musical item ever, by anybody? Inspired by my esteem for Turn, I tried to answer that question last night, and decided it would have to be something by VU, probably I'm Set Free.

Although this appears to be a private conversation, I'll chime in anyway - firstly to 'Turn' on the official release; it may just be the additional clarity (thanks to mastering) that make the drums sound a bit different, it is a subtle difference nonetheless. The end of 'Who's Joe' is also slightly longer and improved, the promo copy I had seemed to cut off the last fraction of that purring noise. Tops, the bloody lot of it, anyway.

As for the best musical item ever, I'll skirt the issue by proposing three - our boys with 'Run', 'New day rising' by Husker Du and Barber's Adagio. And it is quite painful to restrict that to three only!

I wait with baited breath for Dc's choice/s (I suspect a certain well-known hammering Oberheim bass drum may be mentioned), and applaud fully your nominated choice, P!

From your other post it appears that you may have been listening to an earlier version than the one I've been listening to.

On the subject of the end of track 1, do you have any theories about the meaning of that noise?

Perhaps a kitten was perusing the officially-released booklet and purred in Pavlovian response to the illustration of the rabbit, P?

The sound itself is similar to the effect at the end of Dub Vulture - a portion of the song sampled and fed into a dig delay, then wound way down so the pitch is deep...just a guess. It's like the opposite to that effect that the Chemical Bro's use so frequently - they seem to like the effect that speeds and pitches up, the infernal knob-twiddlers that they are. Does that make any sense?

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never heard Dub Vulture, CTB.

I'm also embarrassingly uninformed on the technical means employed to produce music.

It is such a striking sound, though, that I can't believe it doesn't have some thematic significance.
