I always preferred the Instrumental, but since the Muffstar sent his goodie bag - I'm swaying between both - which has surprised me to say the least
When I'm at work I usually have them seperated onto 2 sides of a tape!!

I just think the lyrics are shit on the vocal version, and they don't fit with the song. It's almost as though they put words to it at the last minute as they didn't want to have two instrumentals on Low Life, and ended up leaving it off anyway !
Duly noted - but then again his lyrics aren't up to much anyway
It did/does sound a bit thrown together - maybe that's why it's growing on me.
I've only heard the vocal version but I can see how the instrumental would be awesome.
Is there anywhere I can listen to the instrumental version on the net?

Which vocal version do we mean, the "You did nothing for me" one, or the demo?
Of the three, I'd probably have to say that my favourite is the demo version.
...i prefer the (Best)Of version "Let's go (nothing for me)"...cool tune...catchy lyrics...soundwise it has a bit of this "Get Ready"-feeling...

There was a vocal version of Let's Go on the second CD of the '95 release of 1963. At the time I thought that Barney had just added a vocal to the Salvation instrumental, but after hearing the original instrumental from Muffy's goodie bag (and how good was that?) I'm not sure.
Does anybody know when the vocal was recorded? I also take it this the version on the American Best Of as well?
Comparing the Best Of version to an earlier version with lyrics, they just sound like completely different songs, with only the guitar bit from the earlier version preserved and very much expanded.

The song was written at the same time as As It Is When It Was, and first appeared at Swansea 10 April 1985. It was recorded as an instrumental for Brotherhood but left off (it arrived too late for inclusion on Low Life), the instrumental version appeared on the Salvation soundtrack. There are other recordings of the instrumental floating about though.
The notes by the demo version on this site agree that it is totally different from the Best Of version.

The song was written at the same time as As It Is When It Was, and first appeared at Swansea 10 April 1985. It was recorded as an instrumental for Brotherhood but left off (it arrived too late for inclusion on Low Life), the instrumental version appeared on the Salvation soundtrack. Bowing down to your bootleg knowledge, Tim - as I know you were dabbling in the fine art of taping around that era - but I always I thought it was written in stone that "Let's Go!" was a (v.shite) track due for inclusion on Low Life. And due to it being so bad - let's face it, that vocal was awful -they rushed out the dreadful Perfect Kiss edit for inclusion on the album instead? But then decided to continue with Let's Go as an instrumental for live purposes.
It actually appeared live first in Edinburgh in 85, in roughly the same week as Subculture, TTON and Love Vigilantes, suggesting it was a Low-Life session track, and nothing to do with Bro'Hood and AIIWIW whatsoever, though obviously AII might've been constructed in the same sessions, but didn't appear live till much later (I seem to remember AII was named 'Things We Do' by most bootleggers for the whole of 85, and the AII moniker didn't appear till it was named as such on the Whistle Test).
...are the versions of "Let's Go (nothing for me)" on the 1963-single, the US Best-Of and the Blue Monday '95 (canada release) identical ???

Marco, I'm not positive, but I suspect they're all the same, since they're all in the same time period.

You're quite right about the Caley Palais Jarvo - forgotten that one !
I'd originally assumed it was done for Low Life but that it wasn't ready - when did they actually record Low Life ?, as there were several new songs emerged complete on Jan/Feb 85. Dave Simpson, bootlegging doyen and sometime Melody Maker journo, told me at the time that As It Is (as you say, then known as Things We Do) and Let's Go were written at the same time but that neither were finished in time for Low Life. Barney announced the correct title of As It Is at one of the gigs late 85, can't remember which one off the top of my head - it'll come to me....

It still hasn't come to me, after a lunchbreak scatching my head, but I do remember that at Rennes Salle Villar in December 85, As It Is was introduced as "Fromage et Petit Pois".
The Let's Go on the best of isn't quite the same version as the original scrapped version. I guess it was re-recorded. It's different to the Salvation version as well.
Lets face it though, regardless of which version we're talking about, it's a pretty substandard track.
Why it was on the US Best Of was always beyond me.

no, I wasn't such an obsessive back in those days (my 1st NO single was True Faith '94). I did buy the 1963 single but unfortunately only the one with those abysmal remixes on.
Wank, which version did you just hear? Is the version on thi site under demo versions the non Best Of version? They just sound like two completely different songs to me.
Its titled Let's go(nothing for me)3.59 from Audiogalaxy,presumably from 'Best of'with lyrics, there were a few other versions of lesser KBPS around the same length.Is there a third way?
