How fookin good were the Bunnymen ?

Must admit I never really liked them that much, until 5or6 years ago - got the album Songs to Learn and Sing - blew me away mate, fuckin love the early stuff, haven't really got much else - something else always pops up - Got a tape from Glasto 97 where they play Back of Love and Nothing lasts forever - brilliant
What album do you recommend most strongly?
They are all so different. Crocodiles was all the early stuff, several classics on there. Heaven Up Here was a mixed bag, some great stuff and some shoddy, marred by a poor production. Porcupine has The Cutter, The Back of Love and not much else, Ocean Rain is all stringy (inc. Killing Moon), E & TB was the beginning of the end of that era. Then when they came back, Evergreen was surprisingly good. I think you have the best one already in Songs To Learn And Sing, though Crocodiles is well worth a few quid.

Mac The Mouth - now there's a really charismatic frontman. He makes me laugh - rent a quote, prima donna, egotist, bad hair day, proto mullet, you name it - he's perfected it!
Anyone recall Mac coming on stage with the Order to sing guest vocals to "Ceremony" during an old NO gig ages ago? Which gig was that - any of you care to fill us in on that one?

I saw The Bunnymen about two years ago, the renditions were spot on(take note NO) but it was like a concert from beyond the grave, earily lacking any sense that I was witnessing something happening in real time, about thirty lads down the front really into it,what do they do for other 364 days each year?
I managed to download that Ceremony one just before the Removal of mp3files...Ian Curtis would turn in his grave if he heard the way Mcculloch sing!! I love the Bunnymen though, saw them on may 7th 1999 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.Great gig, nice mixture of old and new stuff. When i hear Ocean Rain... man that still gives me the shivers,or the Cutter,Villiars terrace.. They played on Later with Fools that same year i guess (or maybe 98), i videoytaped it ,two songs only, but excellent performance.
And remember to spare a thought for poor old Pete De Freitas who was killed in a motorbike accident on the continent . One quarter of that classic Bunnymen line-up, tragically snuffed out before he even hit 30. Truly sad and something the subsequent Bunny line ups could only struggle to consolidate.
My fave LP of theirs remains "Ocean Rain", predictably enough; the title track, such a big weepie - in fact I'll just go and put it on now......
I am surprised thats your fav track Martin, but then again it is fucking beautiful. always reminds me of my younger days, i had a beautiful girlfriend who loved the B'men,the days of squatting houses and unused churches, my god how time flies......those roaring early eighties in holland. Whenever i am in a nostalgic mood , i like to play Ocean rain and just think of that lovely girl i once knew...sigh
