Don't know why I bother coz I hate the mag, but it has redeemed itself slightly by rating Crystal in the top 50 singles of the year...at 18 in fact;

New Order's walloping comeback single 'Crystal' hits the ground running on a crashing wave of Bernard Sumner's pumped-up power chords and oddly deadpan intensity. This is a defiant affirmation of love, charged with risk and regret, and more guitar-laden than anything New Order have done since Joy Division. Some of the mystery has gone, but the passionate punk spirit remains.

All lovely of course. The student rag does then let itself down of course by rating the heinous 'Get Ur Freak On' by Missy Elliot at No.1 and the untalented Kylie at No.2., The dire long haired sweat-beast that is Andrew Wk at 4, The SFA Lighthouse Family style atrocity at 14 and barely another decent tune in there.

It only saves itself from complete embarassment by having S Club's Dont Stop Movin at 19, and Ash's Shining Light at 40. Have a look for yourselves at:

Nme's crappy list

What a weird list...you got all these R&B tracks and Kylie and Sclub7  mixed in with the likes of the Strokes, Radiohead, the Order and The White Stripes? So I guess that (just like in Holland) the 'serious' music press has now also embraced R&B and rap as innovative music? It's probably one of those lists that whoever compiled it will look at 10 years from now and think: My God, what have we done! What a shame...

Get your freak on numero uno everywhere Seb, ubiquitous one might say, anyway I think I was the first to say 'Don't stop movin ' was a corker, though no-one took me seriously. I still say 'Another chance' was SOTY

Oh yeah...spot the thick bastard everyone.

Umm not sure I agree, I like the tune but would probably plump for Clint Eastwood, even though I didn't think a great deal of the rest of the Gorillaz album.

Hmm, I'd have to go with Clint Eastwood as single of the year as well. Who knew Damon could be likeable? :jump:

Rap and R and B used to be innovative back in the early 90s, but both have been drastically affected (and not for the better) by white suburban kids being their main buying audience. The Bling-Bling Boys, as I like to call them, have made it more profitable to record crowd-favored singalongs with nonsense lyrics, rather than address social issues (like NWA and Public Enemy, as well as later-day Beastie Boys). To me, rap died a long time ago, whatever's on the charts now is its glamorous corpse.

Destinys Child higher than New Order??? What has the world become? What is going on? Ive lost all faith in the human race....

Did anybody see the thing on MTV where Damon was allegedly assaulted by the animated characters that are Gorillaz?

Clint Eastwood was one of my singles of the year too. What was that MTV thing? Sounds hilarious!

I ain't bought it for years ! Don't even buy it now if the Order are on the cover. Most music journalists are bastards, who build you up to put you down. Tabloid hacks should be in Room 101 if they aren't already. Grrr. :nonono:

YEEE-HA!!!
WELL GUESS WHAT??? I JUST DID IT TODAY!!!!

Half-inched a copy of the Xmas NME without chippin' in to their (IPC's) pathetic egotist charity, that is!! From a money-grabbing capitalist big-name supermarket chain whom shall remain nameless.

Piece of piss it was (I did however, redeem myself by spending over £20 on groceries though.....)

I said I was going to do it after all (earlier above)... ;)

Any chance of scanning it then ? I can't even be arsed to nick it !
