A Krafty Opener?

The more I hear Krafty the more I like it, I remember a lot of us were saying it might not have the staying power of some of their classics but I honestly think we have a song on par with Regret&Crystal here.

Strong melody with a simple yet typically endearing chorus a bit of synth, some guitar and lashings of Hooky bass. Its no wonder they chose this as their first single..

Look at the first singles from Republic....REGRET and GetReady....Crystal both widely regarded as "classic" new order. Dont see why Krafty cant make that claim.

Its a dead cert to be played at their gigs this year (they have practised it live enough already!) and I reckon it has a very good chance of opening their gigs in the way that Crystal did during their last round of gigs.

If it is an opener I think its more than capable of holding the kick off power that Regret and Crystal both held.

Originally I thought it'd be great to open with TPK - something old for everyone with these festival-types to get the crowd going - and then go into Krafty as the second song. Now I think it'd be better to switch the two. Have faith in your new stuff.

I think Krafty would better serve as an ending song. It's a little too mellow to open a set and would probably put people to sleep. Now on the other hand, Guilt would be a great set opener. :D

Krafty is really a great song. It was good at the first time it was on radio, but not as good as it gets. So it's a bit of a grower to me. So as a gig opener, it's really important that I'm not getting bored of it. I think it would be a nice gig opener for both - the "true fans" and for the festival audience.

It's sweet, melodic and most of the people knows it because of it's status and airplay amount as being the first single. So it brings the people together, especially in the festival gigs. And that's important. After all, Crystal don't have as much those assets as a gig opener song as Krafty do (for a random festival listener). It's a bit dark and most of all kind of a long one. On the other hand Crystal has a killer drum line to get the feet off the ground and that piano/Dawn Zee intro wasn't that bad after all.

So what I'm saying is that it would nice to have something different as an opener this time. Back to the positive Regret times. Would it be possible that they could variate the opener from Krafty to Crystal and Regret.. and possibly some other new song like the second single ? Have they done it that way for a long time?

New Order tend in recent years to start out with a more dramatic song....like Crystal  or Atmosphere, so I'm thinking something with an intro like Who's Joe would be more likely, even if it isn't the most fast paced track.

Undoubtedly I'll be able to debate issues like this better after I've heard the other 10 tracks on the CD. As of March 21st, Krafty seems like a good opener. We'll all be on the same wavelength in good time.

nah krafty just sounds too tinny to me and seems a bit weak on the production front when held up to other tracks on the album.

an ideal opener from the album has to be guilt,what with the heart beat intro ect, lights pulsating on stage in time as new order take to the stage,then that big chunky drumbeat kick in,would be good.

i would deffo like to see some of their old stuff get an airing and as much as id love to see anyone of these tracks id doubt they would play em.

HEAR, HEAR! But really, anything unexpected as an opener would set just as cool an effect for the night - maybe something off of Movement or PCL.

You know, I reckon the title track will be the best opener.  Maybe this is a new thread, yeah, I'll start one...

I totally agree.  Play Dreams Never End as the first song and Nitrate will wet his pants.
