I'm sure I am not the only person to think this, but isn't it about time we heard a live version of True Faith that is closer to the original rather than the '94 Oh so cheesy 4-4 piano backing?!?

Was just listening to the live rendition from Reading 1993 (my first No concert - sigh) and the original drumming from Stephen gives it so much energy and ironically enough sounds more modern and cool than all the live versions since then.

With both Phil and Barney on geetar and the orignal drum stylee i'm sure it would sound incredibly meaty and be a welcome return at this year's festivals!!!

To be honest I've always disliked the Reading 93 performance of TF. The drums sound all "clattery" if there is such a word and it generally sounds a bit dated. The orchestral PSB-like hits towards the end sound awful too, very dated. Admittedly on record I do prefer the original '87 version every time compared to Perfecto (the mix on the CD single is a bit "lite" sounding) but live the new mix does it for me every time I love that build up intro and think the whole arrangement breathed new life into the song. I mean all the same stuff is there! Lyrics, guitars and the cool as fcuk middle-eight.

All subjective of course but I wouldn't get your hopes up for them performing the original arrangement. The Perfecto mix is the one they've used for the past 7 years and they're not gonna go back now.

Well I think that the Perfecto version is nice enough on live. It might be just me, but I think it's somehow "easier" version to play than the original. Still I found the 98 reading performance way better than the one on Finsbury DVD. I think it's Gillian.

Don't know what was the case in the good old days with original version, but hooky's minimal role on this song nowadays is somehow disturbing. At least give the man some noise in to his mic when he sings the "backing" vocs. It looks so emotional in the Finsbury gig with all the horisontal waving and looking at the dawn stuff :evil4:

By the way, do I find Hookys bass a little turned up on the latest "In Session" opening track version? I know barney will grap his nuts and show the evil eye, but I was hoping for some more bass on it.. and don't get me wrong. It's pretty awesome at the current form too.

The original True Faith, or a similar mix seriously needs to be played this time around, but don't get your hopes up, I doubt it will happen. I really DO NOT like the perfecto mix at all because I think it doesn't do the song justice, and let's face it, IT ISN'T True Faith. When I see True Faith on a set list I expect to hear True Faith, not the two chord piano build up then and a completely different low bassline. I remember when I first brought the 316 DVD and was looking forward to see them perform True Faith, I wacked it on to chapter 11 (True Faith) and I get this almost completely different sounding song, a shame indeed.

The version at Reading 93 - from what I heard on Electronic Ecstasy - is rather good, although seems closer to the original. I personally don't mind when a song gets altered - such as with the version played at Reading 98 - unless they attempt to do a remix that sounds completely different from the original, like the dance remix of BLT. I wonder, if they do True Faith - in whatever form - for their upcoming shows, will Barney have enough guts to use the Michael Jackson line?
