When did the autocue first appear?

was it the Apollo 98? (apologies as I'm sure it must have been raised previously but it's not an official FAQ, so for the sake of clarity and authenticity...)

I was watching the Rock Around The Clock perfomance from 84 again the other night, and noticed for the first time that he's got the lyrics propped up infront of him on a music stand, a la Stipe.

And still cocked a few lyrics up if I remenber!
