I first got into New Order`s music upon listening to P,C&L in1983 but it was a particular radio broadcast of a gig that year that cemented my fandom of them.
Just before Christmas 1983 the Radio 1 evening show broadcasted the Kilkenny April 24th gig.At the age of 15 i had never seen or even heard what they sounded like live.I listened to the show and taped it .Jesus , how shit they sounded live was my first reaction and nearly taped over it straight away. But something stopped me and i was drawn to listen to the tape again. And again .And again. And the more i listened the more i came to love it.And really this tape was how i came to love the personalities of the band and not just the music. This tape revealed to me the piss taking , couldnt give a fuck attitude of New Order( pity its not so evident these days but thats life) which inspired me thru my later youth and beyond. Some of my favourite lines from the gig are Barneys ,during The Village "and when it finally starts the synthesizer will be in tune" and Ceremony "Safe from Top Of The Pops!" .Or was it "straight from Top Of The Pops!"?.And before Ceremony Barneys waffling about guitars.Temptation from this gig was awesome to those young ears and was actually before i heard the studio versions. And Barneys almost if not completely sarcastic "we love people really" after that song.
Anyway ,i just thought i`d try and share a little story of my experiences of getting to know the personalities behing the music!.
