south wales argus gives it a stomping review, 4stars. i seems that the major mags are giving it medioca reviews, for whatever reason but someone who just listens rates it big stile

It's because these major mags have agendas whereas the smaller mags and newspapers don't have preconceived ideas. Listen to it carte blanche (several times) and what a box of delights it is.

Main thing is that national (and international) newspapers/magazines get bombarded with promotional material. The more famous bands get reviewed, but the reviewers don't have much time to give the albums a listen. Singles are easier... With a weekly or even daily deadline, you give the album perhaps one or two listens - sometimes even skipping tracks that at first seem crap.
It's good to have the luxury of being able to listen to and review the albums that you want to.
One of the reasons that many bands put the current single, or what they perceive as one of their stronger tracks at the beginning of an album is just in case reviewers just skip the rest!
