Behind closed doors.

Wow! It's really great! I can't stop listening it. Why didn't New Order put it on the album?

I have a little wonder. Did Barney sing the whole song? On the start of this song, singing voice does not sound like Barney's one. Little different.

Is there anyone who feels like me?

It's called multitracking.The ability to record various takes and e.q them,adjust parameters ,add f/x etc... All in the name of production.All done on computers,probably using Cubase.

Technically, they list Protools on the Crystal single. Arthur Baker produced BCD. Excellent song. I think the two different styles represent a shift in perspective. It seems like their are two parts to this song lyrically and stylistically.

do you really think the first few lines are multitracked ??? I don't think so. To me it sounds like just one track very well equalized and mixed right in the front. I guess if it was multitracked you should hear a doubled voice which you don't. And we all know that Barney isn't the toughest in modern multitrack vocal recording ;-)

by the way, has anyone figured out the lyrics to "Behind Closed Doors" yet ???

I don't think the vocal was recorded in one take.Probably a few ,then the best takes/phrases were ,maybe ,spliced together.This would allow various mic positions to be utillised. Anything's possible these days. Technology has moved on so much to allow greater flexibility in recording.

I just got the Crystal single the other day and I love Behind Closed Doors!!! I love Bernard's voice in the first verse of the song, sounding like he is whispering a bit! On the topic of why they didn't put this on the album, here are my thoughts:

They put this song as a b-side to the single in order to start discussions (a really good one was going on Ceremony) that would get people talking and then more would know about the single and upcoming album. It may be sort of a twisted way of promoting the album.. If you think about it, it makes sense... when does New Order do anything that is the same as everyone else?

Here are corrections in my opinion:

"where if you go and haze" I am not sure what they mean by haze though!

"the key will open a door" I hear him saying "a" and "door" quickly like one word "I blame the parents anyway" "there's no hope" "I can't cope" "that I could call a home" "I'd live without a care" "I'd never be alone" "I listen to the cause"

I didn't put the original post's meanings because it would take up too much space, you will understand!!

This is not a full set of corrections, but it should be "HASTE" not "HAZE"

"if you go in HASTE" (definitely not "HAZE"; not sure if the first word is "WHAT" or "WHERE")

"A key will open DOORS" (not "A DOOR")

"AT any given time" (not "ON")

OK, explain to me what it means to "go in haste"...

to go in haste means to go quickly, without looking for sunscreen, ponytail holders, cd's for the trip, proper clothing etc...

i stand accused of causing my girlfriend to wait for me due to all of the listed items, thank you for the assumption though.

apologies to april if she felt offended. i am constantly making my people wait because i have to find the right cd for the trip or the right jacket (the weather changes in seattle constantly). So i always leave "in haste" i know too well what it means. lately it's been the crystal single (for lee combs mix and BEHIND CLOSED DOORS (fucking great song and real reason for this topic)) Tomorrow i'm sure it will be Reading 98---Thanks Rob!!!

No offense taken, I am one of those girls that can actually get ready from start to finish in about 30 minutes and look quite decent :p

It's a great song and well produced. I always thought the lines about The Corrs were another of Barney's great jokes, you'd listen to The Corrs behind closed doors because you wouldn't want yer mates finding out!

its bland everyday living he's talking about there, checking the scores, listening to generic pap music, just basically turning into everybody else.

the reason its not on the album is that it would stick out like a sore thumb. you must be getting confused with a pop album with a bunch of unrelated singles produced by different people intersperced with filler :)

previously NO would just have released them (BCD, Sabotage, Player in the League) as singles. but they have been chastised enough over the years for singles not on the albums, and now as single sales are so low, they are only any good to promote your album

Just given the song another listen now. Yeah it's a good 'un. Barney's 'Regret' style of lyrics about life in the "real world". Possibly left off the album, because it's more subtle and electronic than the other album tracks such as 'Primitive Notion' and 'Crystal'. May have been slightly out-of-place at a time New Order were trying to come back with their amps turned up to 9.5.

Definitely one of the best songs New Order recorded since they came back with Brutal.
