I heard something on the radio today while i was queuing in Virgin. They are gonna do a universities tour....
anyone got any more news... im not a huge fan but would like to see them.
Apparently they are gonna have a guitarist on stage with them, they've moved more in that direction with their new stuff, so the radio said...

he's featured on quite a few of the new songs from what i may or may not have read at the psb website.
Nope, because he has other engagements.
But Marr did work on 10 tracks of the PSB's last album, and if they DO launch a full scale tour for their next album, don't be surprised if he tours with them since he said himself, by answering my own question through his website a year and a half ago, that he thought the Nightlife songs would have sounded much better if he had been on stage with them to play guitar.
Besides, he co-wrote a song on their 1996 Bilingual album, and played guitar on a couple of tracks on their Behaviour album I think. Also, he re-worked the song "I Want To Wake Up" in 1993 and, of course, worked with the PSB in Electronic. So they have a fairly long common history. Johnny Marr is, in a way, the third Pet Shop Boy.

I think I've managed to secure tickets for their show at the Astoria.
Should be quite good seeing them in a small venue - last time I was there was to see ACR.
I hope they do some of their 'greatest hits'.
Though I'd never pay money to see them, I must admit to liking quite a lot of the earlier stuff. First two or three records particularly.
I think that a lot of people like to distance themselves from the PSBs because along the years they became some sort of gay symbols (if not 'activists') and because their use of costumes may sometimes be embarrassing, but whatever these people say, the PSBs have always been VERY original and have always produced quality music, and Neil Tennant's lyrics have always, in my opinion, been very deep/profound/well-thought/clever.
I'm a fan since West End Girls came out and I will not hesitate to buy their next album and see them live if they come touring again.

I would never fly to another city to see them, but if they came here then yea I would go. But lucky for us they make a concert video after each tour, so we don't miss a thing. My only wish for the next tour is that they have a more live sound to them. In their somewhere dvd they said about 90% of their concert is pre-recorded. So I'm thinking Neil is the only thing live about the show. So I hope for the next tour I would like to see a guitarist and a drummer and even another keyboard player? Neil did play guitar in the very tour and the rest since then, which is nice, but I would like to hear something live from chris. Amd get rid of the recorded background singers for Go west and new york city boy. (Sing it live damit). They do have a great stage show, (minus the somewhere concert, very bad) Very was my favorite tour. And as for their songs go, I love them all, only New Order do better. And the song I would love to hear live the most would be A red letter day. One of their best! Ok I said my peace about the PSB, Now I can get back to New Order, since it looks like Someone like you is going to be their 2nd American single.
PS Buy PSB Montage, It's great. Just don't eat any mushrooms while watching it, You will think you have just gone crazy.

Even now, the PSB'ers are copying New Order - in going for a more guitar-driven rockier sound. LOL When will they learn to create music of their own, rather than imitating people who have much more talent than themselves. Rant over.

i don't think there's too many people that distance themselves from the psb's as much as erasure. i don't consider the psb's to be a "gay" band. it just happens that the singer is gay. who knows what chris is. i know he doesn't like being labeled though. the only costumes i didn't like were the pointy hats from "very". i think the bright yellow wigs were cool and everyone should be wearing them! as far as the psb's using guitars, neil has said before that he writes most of his songs on guitar.

during past psb's tours they've always had a second keyboard player/programmer. for the small 89/90, discovery, and nightlife tours they've had a percussionist. and during the perfomance tour they had a guitarist... and yes i have nothing better to do then write about the psb's today.

"West End Girls" will always be a fave, but I have to admit the openness about homosexuality (at least on the part of the singer) put me off as far as their subsequent career has gone. Of course I'm a big Lou Reed fan, so obviously my adolescent homophobia has lessened, but I just don't care much for the PSBs. Nothing against what they do in the privacy of a nightclub :D......
Behaviour was a very good album and this one should be good as well since Marr is shaping a fair bit of the sound. Very is total gay disco extravagance and i never bothered with nightlife (the attaboy remix is all i've heard). PSB's do have some great songs in their catalogue so don't dismiss them because of their sexuality. The Essential PSB's had a nice flameco guitar version of Domino Dancing.
Does it really matter if someone is gay or not when it comes to liking the music they make ? Surely the music is what counts, not how they may choose to live their lives ? After all, it's the product they produce that you buy, not the means by which they came to produce that product.
Two of my favourite artists, Bob Mould and Grant Hart are both gay, but so what ? Husker Du still made good records.
Oh...Socrates...actually...not having grown up in the glorious southern region of the United States...I guess you would not realize just what a stigma homosexuality still has...a swath...cutting from the southern Atlantic coast all the way through this state that I call home (Texas), is also known as the Bible belt...Southern Baptists and their extreme views have shaped the way of thinking around these parts for years...
A young lady friend that I was dating years and years ago, had an uncle who was a bar tender at one of the largest "gay" bars in Dallas. We would venture there for the free drinks. When my mother (who I always considered to be a fairly reasonable person) found out I was frequenting a "gay" bar (even though I was with my girlfriend) flipped out...
And Brian has mentioned how people are harrassed in this area, and he speaks the truth...if you look or act different from what is considered the norm...you not only risk problems with the police...but with the misguided "rednecks" that will beat the crap out of people due to: color, religion, sexual orientation, or anything else that does not conform to their standards!

I agree completely, but unbfortunately a lot of people have backed off from the PSBs when they learned they were a gay pair... and, even I, a long time fan, have backed up a bit around the time of their Bilingual album because of all the "gay oriented songs" -- it's not because I'm homophobic, it's because I just could not relate to Neil's lyrics in these songs, which wasn't the case with his earlier writing.
As for the Nightlife album, I think everyone should give it a shot -- I think it's a VERY GOOD album.
