Bet You All Missed This One...

I was given a free copy of the Financial Times by Air France last week. There was a review of WFTSC in there which I tore out to post here when I got back from my holiday.

It's the first of three CDs reviewed that day, the second being "Always" by June Tabor. Suppose that makes it album of the day, but they don't actually say this or have stars or anything. Anyway, here is the review...

WAITING FOR THE SIRENS' CALL New Order WEA/London

When Bernard Sumner sings "It's an occupation I don't like, but it pays the rent", his ennui sounds out of step with the sparkling synth-pop New Order try to charm us with on this new album, their eighth in 25 years. But despite their best efforts (some of them excellent), the band can't help sounding workmanlike. Having once tasted greatness, they must now settle for "quite good". No wonder Sumner suffers the odd moment of disillusionment.

Ludovic Hunter-Tilney

I will save the cutting. Although torn a little around the edges, it would make a fine keepsake, or perhaps a gift for a fellow fan. It has been carefully stored in my pocket diary and I feel it may be unique in this condition. I would be prepared to part with it, on authentic 'pink' paper, if anyone were to make a serious offer.

As a bonus, I will print of a copy of this post on my ink jet printer and forge the band's signatures onto the paper.

Why are you quoting each other when there's only the two of you?

I think it's far more appropriate for you to keep it, Big. I feel that I've gotten the benefit of the content, which is the thing that really counts, after all, don't you think? But thanks very much for the offer.

I don't know whether you noticed, but one of the lyrics points we discussed has been put in issue again. I didn't really have the energy to get into it again. But I thought you should know.

I'm right on it!

Actually, bit tired myself.

Maybe we should leave them to it.

Actually, the appearance of a lyrics corrections thread may distract me temporarily from the theory.

I'm taking a copy home tonight to mark up.

But it's only a temporary distraction.

Note that I'm doing my part to boost the post count on this thread.
