Just for the record, I caught up with our mate Marty over the Christmas break and shared a drink or two at one of our favourite Liverpool watering holes (the Philharmonic pub- wonderful loos here, not kidding). This was the first time we'd met up properly since the bad/good old days of him and myself running the mad fanzine "Treadmill" together in the early 90's. Anyway , he mentioned something about not wanting to contribute anymore if he wasn't feeling welcome. ...he's paranoid about all sorts of things, sounds a bit daft if you ask me. But I haven't been posting as much here to even begin to understand what has been cooking of late to even offer an opinion on his dissatisfaction with things... except to say that I, too, have noticed faint traces of egomania and random victimisation cropping up here and there - I suppose what he meant was, if it stopped being fun, he'd call it a day - but then he's like that with everything so that doesn't come as a surprise in my opinion.
But he then went off on one about how shit and beyond hope everyhting was and he just wanted to "do a Richey Manic" - his words not mine - so I think somethings definitely got him worked up to that state. S'weird because we keep in touch quite a lot (phone, email..) and he's always sending me really crazy stuff he's done on CD just to gauge my reaction. The only sad thing is that neitherof us have the time to do any more of these fanzines we used to keep banging out due to other commitments - his band stuff, and my two kids.
Ah - if only for the good old days of innocent fun and self-indulgence......
But then hey! At least we both share one thing in common - we both think Christmas is a over-hyped sack of shite..... so all is not lost then. Hmmmm...... ;)
