scroll down to question 18! :eek3:

What is Freebass?

Freebass is the name of a short-lived musical project created by Roger Taylor and Mark Anthony (of Fuzzbox) in 1997. They recorded and released a radio single called "Love Is Like Oxygen" and played a few shows in Birmingham, but disbanded early in 1998.

so Hooky, Mani and Rourke should change their name to Stalingrad now, which i always thought it was a much better name than Freebass! :thumb:

No, they should change it to "Freebird" to please every redneck and yokel in the crowd.

This could be the connection:

Grandmaster Flash puts out a song (white lines -don't do it) that has the immortal words "Free Base".

Grandmaster Flash plays at the Hacienda.

Duran Duran records a cover version of White Lines.

Peter Hook needs a new name for his new side project (another side project Hooky, do you ever rest?). He has said that all three members of the project-in-progress play bass on one of the tracks. So, perhaps it's a play on three bass, perhaps it is used to conjure up the nasty drug rumors surrounding New Order, perhaps it's a sly homage to the Hac and/or the New York influence on New Order, or maybe it's just coincidence. Sometimes a band name is just a band name.

But Duran Duran seems tangential to any relationship implied by FreeBass.
