hypothetical new order live album

If they were to release a live album, who of you would want it to be one gig or a career spanning disc? Having only 316, 511, and the BBC radio one Live In Concert as my points of reference, this is my list of songs I'd want to hear, and I'd want to hear them in either a nearly-formed but still evolving arrangement or blistering perfection:

All off the top of my head. All you gig experts, can you provide dates for these songs? They ought to do something DVD/CD, like Wire's recent release of a 1979 German TV performance.

"blistering perfection"......you must be high.

You will never be able to satify everybody. We all have our favourites. Some of us actually like the rather shambolic performances of the mid to late 80s.

When it comes to live cds, Ido fell that it is best to stick to one concert at a time.

Funnlily enough, fefore 511 came out I kind of was hoping for a best of DVD, IE all the best performances of the Get Ready Tour, as most if not all concerts were filmed.

I hope they release more live DVDs. Especially some of the earlier gigs. In a way 316 and 511 are very similay in content, and if they do one of the upcoming tour, I feel that it will be quite similar as well.

No give me more of the earlier gigs.

Let's get a 2CD set, the first with the Ancienne Belgique concert from May 1981 with that wild first performance of EGG, and the second with their triumphant comeback at the Manchester Apollo in 1998, something for everyone. Oh, and add a live Perfect Kiss as bonus track as they didn't play it in either shows of course.

From a sound quality perspective, if not necessarily playing quality, I would probably say

Obviously some of these choices are dictated by the existence of a couple of outstanding quality soundboard recordings, but I have included excellent audience recordings where possible. If I was making such a compilation myself, this is where I would be sourcing the songs from.

IMO there should definately be a a mid to late 80s concert on DVD. That's New Order at their best and yet all we have is early early 81 footage or later 98/2002 footage, which isn't a great representation of the band live. Makes you wonder why still there isn't an official DVD of a concert between 85 - 89.

I can see the general public buying an album like this in droves! Just imagine, hearing Barney singing "my name is Andrew - oooh - you know what I mean, my name is Andrew..." (instead of "it's called love" for this particular 'performance') in your local HMV!

i'd want just one show on a live album they already did a career-spanning live disc on the box set

I wish they would get one of those internet companies to do some live shows of the current tour. Like disc live does with the Pixies, and there is another one that has done Peter Gabriel. Barring that, it'd be nice if they would do an "archive" style series like Joy Division. But I want more than just two shows.

I still want a full reissue campaign with all the remastering and what not. Release a double disc, on disc one would be the original album, disc two demos and outtakes, and then between the release of one "remaster" and the next, a live cd from the period ran together to sound like one show, but from various dates...

Bearing in mind the unhappiness that the singer has long professed over his live performance, a combination of inadequate singing voice and embarrassing potty mouth, we are lucky that so much live stuff is on official release already!

There is no way on earth that they would agree to something like Disc Live, I wouldn't have thought. These days the live experience is one for the memory rather than repeated again on CD.

Yeah, but it seems that Barney and the boys have "loosened" up a bit....especially with the live thing, so maybe ...ah who knows. I'm kinda surprised they haven't put out a real live album, being as the "best of" collections seem to get released so often.

Don't get me wrong I sure am not looking the gift horse in the mouth...I'm very happy with the live stuff we do have but being as I live in an area where it's so hard to see them live, I'd like more.

My wife and I were actually planning on going up to New York to see them this go 'round...but buying a house has taken priority. I kept hoping they would come to one of the festival shows they have here in Georgia, and just the other day the local radio sponsor was advertising a very special elctronic/rock pioneering band from the era, they had hits and a huge underground status, a bit of small comback in the 90's, and they were back again....I was getting pumped...and then they announced.....DEVO. Ugh.

There won't be one. Barney's always said he dislikes Live Albums, and I don't think there will be an Archive Series (a la JD) because the band are still an ongoing concern. That siad, if there was one, I'd like there to be a 'snapshot' of one show, as opposed to an amalgam of shows and eras. (The "retro" disc is appalling and tantalising frankly). If you must choose one show I would say Manchester Apollo 98, because its a historic and excellent show, and the playlist covers a wider and more interesting selection of songs and versions than any other show.

Personally I think a revamped double DVD of "New Order Story" (with all the promos and the Tokyo 85, London 87 and Montreux 93 shows) would clean up nicely at this high-profile time.
