The poll has questionable validity because of self-selection bias, but I voted regardless.

Both bands have had important influences on music (and the subcultures music affects). If one band's influence on other bands is a criterion, both bands would qualify. Joy Division is probably hampered by their brief career and output. But then there's always that Nazi thing - this disqualifies both of them.

Dance music maybe, not JD, but NO. Cause there most succesful songs are the dancier tracks, although the fans like the rock songs also. But commercially and to every average listener out there, NO is more of a dance band. Just go listen to the best of album, all dance synthesized tracks apart from one or two.

Yeah but unfortunately he was bound to be in there as he's the biggest artist of the 80's with the biggest selling album of all time, which is quite hard to ignor really. Technically, JD/NO don't compare to that kind of success. But I agree, would of been nice if NO were in there.

Yeah, JD and NO should be in there. Actually, I think if anyone should be in there it's Kraftwerk. I'm not even a fan, really, but in terms of influence, Kraftwerk is huge. Heard a synth or drum machine on the radio lately?

From what I've seen so far, the Rock Hall's gonna have some serious growing pains moving from blues legends and '60 and '70s FM radio stars into more modern acts.

I thought U2 was abducted into the HoF.

I thought New Order/JD was founded on the basis of punk, which stood against all the stolid, stagnated rock and roll establishments like the hall of fame?

I think the rule of thumb is that they needed to be around a bit longer, and if not then they needed a bigger fan base. Joy Division was cut short of being huge in North America (they would have been a hit). The Smiths would be more likely if they are not there already. Joy Division was a very popular group in England and today have a big cult following around the entire world. They've influenced many groups which (if they do get in) will be the reason. I love Joy Division's work, it is hall of fame calibur in itself but there is more to achieving that status officially I believe.

New Order will be there someday rest assured, I just don't think Joy Division will be inducted. Like, too many people don't know who they are/were. Maybe its more fitting that they remain in the shadows, who knows?

They did do Blue Monday, but how important is the R&R hall of fame? How many of us really care or remember who is actually in there?

Agree with Mike 100% here. There should be a poll option to reflect that point of view tbh. R&R Museum or whatever has always struck me as the height of lameness, does anyone really take it seriously?

There's too many fucking awards ceremonies and mutual backslapping going on in today's music industry anyway. There should be less awarding and more making of music. Awards just serve to boost musos normally coked-up egos anyway so they make pish self-celebratory music Most of the best bands make their finest music when they're in the wilderness of being ignored, Joy Division's a good example of that.
