Barney does seem a bit uncomfortable, but with more practice "This time I'll get it right" in CHICAGO. I like how there's more bass sequencer, synth up in the mix too. Can't fuckin' wait!!

Barneys knocking on 50. The constant touring, drink, drugs,etc have obviously taken their toll. Just like the singer out of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Barney pronounces "friend" as "fwend". He cant sing like he could in 89, when he had tuiton. He is possibly the worse singer live. Just make sure youre mashed at a NO gig and you wont care. But buy the CD/DVD (ie Glastonbury 1987 and its embarrassing to listen to). So was TFI in 1999!!!!

im getting the tracks from the web master at the moment ...but this souunds like a band desperate for the last buck after a poor album(my opinion)im saying this after reading all the posts about new orders coming gigs that are trans continental..barneys hatred of touring and the dreaded autocue..plus i cant afford the gig in hyde park(whats wrong with playing finsbury again...the last one there was amazing and affordable)and the rain stopped when they started to play...a sign i tell you...bye ...phil

I forget the name as well, but I was reading in the paper, that Cher uses 19 of these machines in her cercert to sound good, Shania Twain uses 2. Hilary Duff uses it. They named a few more people as well.

I like the recordings. I'm sure it will sound better live in person, but on recordings he normally sounds that way.

That sounded better when I was in the audience, (except for Regret) even if the voice was a bit covered by the guitars.

The hardware version is the Antares ATR-1, otherwise known as Auto-Tune. While vocal tuning is not anything new and has been done for ages using various gadgets and techniques, the Auto-Tune process just made it easier. The software version is pretty much common place is most studios.

Also, keep in mind that his vocals that you hear on the album are a result of numerous takes and edits to give you the best sounding result. It's just the way you make a record...

This is the thing that gets me with Barney. He can sing reasonably well in the studio. But that's understanding as he isn't playing live infront of a crowd. I disagree that his voice is "enhanced" on the actual recordings. He's just more at ease and prepared for the vocal session. But when we hear him live I doubt he really puts much thought into it and just gets up and sings.

I read in that True Faith article that most the time Bernard would record in the studio, he would have to get fairly pissed so he wouldn't think about messing up. That's why I believe that on most of NO's songs he has had a few drinks.

Cause the more you try and sing, and think about it, the more you're going to mess up and sound unnatural. But after a fair amount of alcohol (just the right amount, not over the top) this feeling is gone therefor helping you a great deal.

Also a singer can go up to at least ten ten takes before finding the best recording which will be used on the album. I'm sure Barney can still sing reasonably well, WFTSC is the proof, and I seriously doubt his voice was enhanced on that.

It does make you want to say "Get it together for fuck sake" to him though when he sings live, but that's what happens when you are quite a private/shy person and a lot of people are starring right at you as you sing.

I'm hoping that by the time they play Chicago they've got the tracks nailed down tight. Musically, they sounded good, but Bernard did seem to struggle with the singing.

Perhaps they just plug in a BarneyBot in the studio to get the lyrics. He sounded like he was struggling with the singing in a way I've not noticed in any other live shows I've heard. Perhaps he's getting a little out of shape, which may mean fewer yelps at the live shows.

The track listing someone put up had Regret in the set and also as an encore - is this correct? Been only to one show that had a band do this, and it seemed bizarre.

What happen to Jetstream? Why dont we have that one?

confirms WTFSC to be a classic song IMO. Barney's singing is a bit dodgy of course - be suprised if it wasn't. Looking forward to hearing these 3 live in the summer

Yes, they did a second take of Regret & LWTUA - to get it right, not really an encore

Love Will Tear Us Apart

This is take 2 of LWTUA and the last song of the session. Take 1 sounded better and perfect to me but wasn't dedicated to Ian. During the break, someone may tell them that it would be nice to dedicate the Joy Division track to Ian.

Phil is full time on keyboard.

Hooky helps Barney on vocal during the chorus. EUPHORIC RECALL was written on the Hooky bass amp. After the 2 chorus and during the drum break at 2'24, Hooky put his bass handle in the ass of the cameraman who filmed Stephen. The cameraman was very surprised about that We can see that on the video

Stephen has a nice t-shirt with an alien from the 80's video game Space Invader and made a very good job on drums

Barney's voice is warm now and he sing better. But LWTUA is easier to sing too. (Ian made the voice line)

The bass at the end of the song (4'01) was very impressive in the studio, but I can't found it again on the broadcast.
