Republic is still better than Get Ready

Republic still has the New Order past, the sound that has evolved from nothing to something. The tracks that linger in our minds. Get Ready on the other hand, has an OASIS tune to it. And quite frankly has about 40% of New Order's past. I do enjoy listening to Crystal, Someone like you, Vicious Streak ect... But I don't think that those tracks can become that classic Regret, World, Run, Spooky ect. These are my two cents!

Sorry, but I disagree here. Get Ready has the sound of old NO (and even a bit of JD) unsullied by the sickening gloss that is everywhere on Republic. Get Ready sounds more like NO of old, as they are writing together, something they clearly weren't doing on Republic - it sounds (to me at least) like the bastard son of "Raise the Pressure" (except for "Regret", which is an absolute classic). ....only an opinion.... I agree with you CTD. NO are back on form in a big way. Remember, the people who are bringing us Get Ready were in a post punk band Joy Division. They have always shown an interest in electronics culminating in their Technique and Republic albums. The sound of those albums can be chalked up to their producers for the most part. New Order get along now and seemed to have written these songs as a band. It makes sense that Get Ready sounds the way it does. The other two non album tracks i have (Player in the League and Run this River Dry) are great. More electronic oriented with some acoustic guitar. Accept the good changes that happened in New Order's personal lives and realize that their new found happiness and maturity has been reflected in their music. Listen to In A Lonely Place and think about how that song perfectly captures where New Order were in their lives at that time. Great Album. Bring on the Tour.

I agree that Get Ready sounds more like NO past Movement and Power Lies and Corruption. However, what I am getting at is that New Order's reputation is NOT being known as a guitar band. More like Electronic to me than guitar. Ask yourself why Johnny Marr and Barney S. named their side project Electronic? Why did Ian Curtis brought up the Synthesizer Idea...and why they were influenced by Kraftwerk. I see cleary now why they sold their souls to the devil and surely getting Blue Monday there after. New Order are POP and they lived with it. It doesnt matter if they've lived a lie. Peter Hook himself admitted it.

Get Ready has plenty of electronic elements. Every song in fact. Technique and Republic were techno tinted pop. Movement, PC&L, Low-Life & Brotherhood all consist of a similar blend of acoustic and electronic instruments as Get Ready. New Order sound like they're "having the time of their lives" and it makes me happy to feel that emotion come through on this album. Do they need to conform to the public's perception of what they sound like?

Philip Obando should listen to his New Order stuff again. Each album is a collection of electronic AND guitar songs (guitars = dreams never end, age of consent, love vigilantes, run etc. etc.) Get Ready sounds fine to me - a bit less "produced" than the last LP but that's no problem.

You have got to be kidding about Republic. With the exception of Regret and Special Republic has never done it for me. To even suggest Republic is a classic NO record is difficult for me to accept. I have been a NO fan since 1985. Througout this time NO has always been a mix of guitar and Keyboard based songs. For me, my favourite No moments have been when guitar based, both Barney and Peter's bass. The end of Perfect Kiss (especially on the video version) is awesome, but songs like Sunrise, Ceremony, and Age of Consent are great examples of NO' power when using the guitar. Funnily enough Blue Monday has never been a favourite of mine, and the main problem with Republic for me was the almost total absence of the Hook bass. As I have previously posted Get Ready fits more in the style of Brotherhood, and there is evidence again of their Joy Division roots in the sound. It is a great album and a great comeback. In my opinion it is both classic NO and fresh sounding.

In my opinion, the best song on GR (Turn My Way) is far, far better than the best song on Republic (Regret), and putting those two songs aside, I think the general level of quality on GR is higher than on Republic (except for Slow Jam, of course, which is much worse than anything on Republic)

Since when was "Run" on Republic??? (Are you sure youve even listened to this album?)

Even bloody New Order cant listen to Republic anymore?!?!?!

I personally like Republic, but i think that Get ready is a huge inprovment, and is certainly the New Order of old. ( I agree with the JD connection too!)

I think Crystal is going to be a classic.....is with me already....
