Bernard's Hispanic Omelette

During the closing scenes of the 80's, Mr. Sommersby was invited to apply lyrics and song to a curious ditty penned by the potassium rich creatures of 808 Potato, a vegetable combo who also resided in the Manchester suburbs.

The song, 'Spanish Harlot', was a slight departure for The Spuds, who up to that point seemed happy enough to bang together kitchen utensils in order to create their own unique club sound. But with a more thoughtful approach, and Bernard's sweet meanderings the results were surprisingly refreshing.

Can anyone else recollect this combination of human and potato?

I'm not too keen on Spanish Harlots.

Spanish Harlem isn't doing it for me.

Hank, your going to have to take a back seat on this one. The supporting traffic is about to swamp this thread.

Righto, I'll keep my thoughts on Spanish Harem to myself from now on.

Never really took to this song, but have seen him sing "Magical Dream" live with 808 State - a far more appetising ditty, even though the bird who sings it on "90" sounds bored off her tits.

Indeed. Off their "90" offering although, sadly, it's not one of the tracks available for preview on that site.

He came on and sang it with 808 State when they supported the Mondays at G-Mex.

Is it along similar Spanish lines?

I thought Spanish Paella was pretty tasty, cooked up by a pair of chefs with very hit-and-miss culinary productions. Amended by another local iron chef whom adds some foreign spice to the dish and saves it from the cardboard clipping blandness of many Newbuildian dishes, instead alluding to the rich synthetic tofu textures of ExEl-estani cuisine.

Nope, it's much beefier. Has a lot more 'oompf'. Spanish Heart's a bit spacey, isn't it? More mellow.

... make that '2' recommendations, the latter a more potent variant.

I'll put some in the mail for you, H. By God they're the size of your HEAD ... with eyes ... always watching ... judging...!

I just have to add that 808 State are THE BEST BAND EVER!! Is their latest album any good?

Spanish Heart struck me as a missed opportunity. Barney had some good idea's for the lyrics but it sounded a bit awkward.

I prefer "Moses", with Ian McCulloch on vocals, from their Gorgeous album.

first, andy, i completely agree with you. "moses" blows away "spanish heart". i do love the mix Negative 1 (-1) made of spanish heart. he pasted an instrumental bit in the intro so it's structured properly and good to mix. much love for the whole of Ex-El and even more love for Gorgeous.
