Power Corruption and Lies

Despite having been into JD, and then Movement, this is album that, for me, sounded like nothing I'd ever heard when it came out, still doesn't. Sirens is moving up the list, it's a grower.

Why do people rate Brotherhood so highly? I just dont get it. The album is a mess. The guitars have bad effects, the bass is too high in the mix (did Hooky produce it?). You sense chaos and tension in the songs (is this the appeal?). Only BLT, SOTN and All Day Long sound professionally recorded and complete. Most of the others sound like demos and the vocals are extremely poor.

Harsh? Yes I probably am but the following album Technique is 100 times better. No exaggeration at all.

There was a time (we'll call "before") when people would be put to the stake for this sort of admission!

Today's favourite is Sirens. Tomorrow's will probably be Sirens as well. Sunday's is anyone's guess (though the smart money is not on Brotherhood).

I just thnk theyre well sung great songs. The intro to Shellshock is awesome. A very underated track IMO. And remember without State Of The Nation there may never have been Mr Disco...same baseline!!!!!

Movement has always been my favorite. Three words: Doubts Even Here.

YES!! Chaos and tension was always the appeal...I've always called their style perfectly chaotic.

Those other tracks although good were simplistic and don't take much to enjoy them.

Leave me alone is one the most perfectly chaotically tense tracks.

Fair point. But Leave Me Alone is off PC&L, which is sonically the other end of the spectrum compared with Brotherhood. Also I think Leave Me Alone is a very simple song (any guitar player can play it) but god is it fantastic.
