07/10/01 - Glasgow Barrowlands 08/10/01 - Glasgow Barrowlands (2nd night)
A small (and local) amount I know, but both excellent gigs! I managed to get backstage for the first night and observe most of the NO set from near Dawn Zee! That was thanks to Pottsy and RAM whose website I was doing at the time so I was part of their support "crew". I filmed RAM's opening set for them and even got some sneak footage of NO during Blue Monday (We were told to put away all cameras by NO's rather paranoid crew). Second night (8th) I was in the crowd, and they didn't play an encore. That night ended with the roadies getting pelted with plastic pint glasses and lots of booing. I think Barney had quit because of tinitus (?)
Aside from that I did have tickets for Reading '98 but I couldn't attend for family reasons, that really pissed me off 
Similarly when they played Fuji Rock Festival in 2001 my plane tickets screwed me over and I had to leave the day before the festival (so much for planning ahead) I did seriously consider staying but it would've cost too much for a day or two extra. My brother went though (bastard) and phoned me up in the UK when they played the intro to Atmosphere and that was the closest I got! Hooky's bass over the phone :) Aside from that I was at Monaco's last gig in 2000 at the Scala in London. Got into the aftershow where I was fortunate enough to meet a very pissed up Hooky; thankfully he was very friendly :D Also saw Arthur Baker there too.
All in all, really enjoyed my brief New Order gigging so far, hopefully will be at Hyde park in June for another memorable one

Just surprised that a fan of your, ahem, length and stature wouldn't have been in the ruck a bit more often. Given your proximity to gigs and all.

To be honest, I've seen a lot of bands, but rarely the same one more than twice. That's just me.

Al and JG leave me very firmly in the shade these days, and Stash is on 66 or something like that. Nobody holds a candle to Dave Molyneaux though, who is on a staggering 142 
Vancouver, June '83, Commodore Ballroom. And, uh, that's it. If anyone was at this show maybe they can remind me what happened because I was delirious the whole time and really only remember being crushed up near the front where I had a very good view of Hooky's feet and bass. I think I wore my t-shirt with the design of the "Procession" 7", wish I still had that. I do remember being in the record store that was on the ground level of the building, before the show, and hearing "Age of Consent" being sound-checked right up above me--that sent my heart all a-flutter. Good times.
Oakland will be my 2nd time. Kind of pathetic, considering I missed several chances to see them, both in the UK during the 80s and in the Pacific NW a couple more times.

Only 43 I'm afraid. Nothing ridiculous like DM. Didn't have the readies to do what I do now, in the 80s.
Seen them across nine countries and three continents which maybe a better effort than the gig-count.

Surely the rule of thumb is each successive continent you catch them in is worth 10-15 gigs.

- I can think of several people on here who eclipse that figure, including some who nearly beat it in 2001-02 alone, and who will no doubt be nearer the hundred figure by August! They are the true hardcore.
I'm confused. I recall a similar thread on WiM ages ago [see link below] where you stated you'd done over 100 gigs, no hint of irony in this either......

It is 53. I was under the impression it was 52, but when I counted them back and cross referenced against the gig guide I realised that I couldn't count. The 50th gig celebrations in Paris were seven months late! That WIM post was my very first post on either there or here, and was an exaggeration. I didn't know anybody and I was trying to put a toe in the water to see what the gig-going fraternity was like, so came up with a random and supposedly impressive figure, only to quickly realise that the sites attracted the genuine hardcore such as yourself and Jarvo who travelled all over the world.
Totals per year are: 1980 - 83 6 1984 - 13 1985 - 11 1986 - 12 1987 - 6 1988-2002 - 5
I'd have thought that some of the hardcore would have recognised (more youthful!) mugs from days of yore: presumably quite a few of the long-term devotees must have (ahem) got sweaty together at the same shows? Even a lightweight like myself (11 gigs and counting) had some bloke accost me at Crewe station on the way up to the Old Trafford gig claiming that he "knew my face" from several earlier shows.
Though that could just be 'cos I'm an ugly cunt....

Technically, it's 7 gigs then. And to think I used to believe I'd never get to see them. :)

I met a Leeds fan on holiday in South Africa last xmas who had been to 90% of Leeds away matches over the past 15 years. Now I haven't done THAT many aways, but I've done quite a few in that period, say 200. At a lot of those games there's about 2-3k of you in shoved into a small part of the ground. I'd never seen this bloke before in my life. I've done just two aways since coming back in January and seen him at both games !. Cos I've met him and know his face now.
Not met anybody off NOOL who I recognise from years back.

Also saw Electronic & Revenge at Cities In The Park 91. And I'm sure Revenge done Reading 93 and Monaco 98?? But we would have been sunbathing next to the beer tents.
Confirmed for Barcelona and Hyde Park this year, but due to a £1300 bill for Council tax it doesnae look like I'll be taking the missus to Dublin:(

Monaco were definitely at Reading 98. Smallish crowd and I remembered thinking how washed-up Hooky looked. Part of the afternoon build-up to the Order.

As well as the New Order gigs i`ve previously listed yeah i was also at Cities In The Park Aug 91.Saw Revenge (only track i remember was Dreams Never End - as soon as it started i looked to my right and there was a lad from Rugby i knew).Electronic obviously as well but the best band that day (night) had to be the Mondays.I was right down the front .Great gig.
