Anyone Remember Johnny Marr's "Stex" ?

The very first thing Johnny Marr did after The Smiths was a guest appearance on a track called "Still Feel The Rain" by a band called Stex. They were British and part of that late eighties British Soul scene... Loose Ends, Driza Bone, Soul II Soul etc.

Anyhow, the song was fuckin' amazing and to my dismay nobody I know even remembers it let alone owns a copy. I've searched everywhere for it with no success. I do know they released an album around the same time which came out on CD.

Does anyone have the track, and if so, any chance of burning us a copy?

The album was released on Some Bizarre in 1992 (The The's label). Johnny Marr only played on Still Feel the Rain. I don't think that Stex had any other releases. I think I have a copy somewhere.

It wasn't the first thing that Johnny did after the Smiths. He had worked with Talking Heads, The Pretenders and The The on Mindbomb as well as Bryan Ferry, who added lyrics to the Smiths song "Money changes everything" and released it as a single.

Oh yeah, "The Right Stuff", forgot about that song.

Check out www.eil.com they seem to have it, or at least a 3 song EP from around 1990 that seems to fit the bill... let me know if it is it

Yeah, Grahame... I remember that song - Still Feel The Rain.... Saw the clip when it was released back in early 90's- had a soul guy singing with a few others..I thought it sounded great, also a bit like Lenny Kravitz-kinda retro guitar in it ( and that wah-wah guitar ) ....was really keen to get the 12"...but the next time I saw the 12" was about 5 years later, and my interest had cooled down a bit and passed up the chance to buy it.

Well, if Johnny Marr actually only appeared on one song in STEX's CD as you've said it, then I guess I haven't missed much.

Exactly what I was looking for and on vinyl as well....bonus!! I was beginning to think I had imagined the song, although I was sure it came out round about '87.

graeme u can get find the stex album at amazon and loads of other sites.the song johnny played on is on it.i think the album is called "spiritual dance"
