'Technique', without a doubt. I love WFTSC and it's in my top 3 New Order albums at the moment, without a doubt, but Technique is simply perfection to these ears and I can't see anything overturning it :)

I'm abstaining.

WFTSC is too new to comapre to an establised album.

My feeling is that WFTSC will be my winter album while Technique will be what I listen to in the summer!

No I'd have to disagree. It's a strong one,and they've been brave enough to stray from the original formula.Check out the Ace Of Base-like "I Told You So" and the rockin' "Working Overtime".Only the first couple of tracks, although they are growing on me,aren't up to the standard we're used to seeing from them. But Technique and Low-Life are consistant.Back to the days when there were two types of NO song:the whistles in the air dance tune,or the lads night out, bass hung low pogo fest. Technique is a hard classic to better.

I think I'm one of a few that don't like "Technique" that much...

Technique has Gillian and no shrieking harpy backup divas.

WFTSC has no Gillian and loads of shrieking harpy backup divas.

QED.

Plus, the Technique sleeve is one of my all-time favorites, though I like WFTSC as well.

Tecnique is a million times better than WFTSC. Its simply a STUNNING album. It flows effortlessly through 9 sublime tracks. At a mere 37 minutes it is (IMO) New Orders finest and most confident moment. If only Barney could still sing like that. I dont agree with peoples comments that its too early to judge WFTSC. If Im not keen on it now then its not gonna grow on me in 5 years time. I think New Order are victims of their past success because if you take WFTSC at face value it is very average.

WFTSC is an excellent album, but TECHNIQUE is very nearly a perfect one. It is a more coherent album than WFTSC, and all of its surprises are pleasant ones. Its blend of dance and rock elements is impeccable; WFTSC does it very well, but not as well as TECHNIQUE.

Close call but I do like Technique better. To WFTSC's credit, it hasnt had all this time to ferment in my mind and I to think it is one of the band's better albums still.

I get bored of Technique and not of WFTSC. I play it on and on.

I'd have to agree with BIG - it's too early to tell. I've listened to Technique a million times and its quality is measured by years of listening, but WFTSC is still growing on me.

There are obvious differences in the albums that will sway people one way or the other based on their preferences (Technique is more dance/synth driven while WFTSC is more rock/guitar driven). Technique is more seamless because there is more consistency in the type of songs on the album, whereas WFTSC has more variety. I think WFTSC would be a stronger album without Working Overtime, but I don't think Technique could be improved by taking any songs off the album.

Technique doesn't have "Jetstream:dead:" on it, that alone should be enough to put it on top.

WFTSC does not have Guilty Partner. That alone should put it on top.

But Technique has Vanishing Point, Run, Mr. Disco and Dream Attack and its hard to find better NO tunes on one lp.

WFTSC is a great album which has already drawn comparisons with Technique. There is a consistency to Sirens which we've not seen since Technique (the lack of a need to skip tracks).

Technique however, is quite simply the finest album I have ever heard. No contest.

I've actually gone with WFTSC. I still don't get the fuss and furore surrounding Technique. In many ways both albums are similar: solid without being spectactular. Every other New Order album, in my mind, has at least one track better than anything either of these could offer though. Even Republic, Brotherhood and Get Ready had Regret, BLT and Crystal. I don't think anything on Technique or WFTSC comes close to those tracks. My one over-riding problem with Technique though is that I just don't have any special 'memories' of that album, I don't hear Dream Attack or Vanishing Point and think, "Ah, I remember when blah blah blah." New Order were fast becoming a well-oiled machine and the gigs were sporadic (unless you were American) and I just can't conjure any images from 1988/9 when I hear any of those tracks. If I had to choose a soundtrack from that period in my life I'd go with the Mondays' "Bummed" cos my lot spent most of 88 and huge chunks of 89 following them around instead. Give me "Do It Better" over anything off Technique any day of the week as I've a billion memories wrapped up in that one track. Whilst I don't feel particularly strongly about WFTSC at this moment in time I expect to have the album banged into my head over the next three months following the band around to such a point that I think I'm gonna fall in love with the title track and maybe Krafty for the rest of me life. I just don't feel that with Technique really. Shame, when all is said and done.

how can you even make a comparison technique is by far a superior Record, the new album although i havent heard much of it, isnt groundbreaking or Fresh Like Technique was. im not saying it is a bad album but c'mon be serious is it one of their best?

Technique still sounds more fresh and eager to my ears, while WFTSC gets just a tad too sentimental and sappy at times. Also, Working Overtime just cannot match the closing crescendo of Dream Attack(still my favorite NO tune of all time).

So which tracks were groundbreaking on Technique back in 1989? It was just New Order making more polished versions of tracks they'd been doing for years. You could argue that Vanishing Point, Mr D and Round&Round were just nice takes on their chunkier dance stuff: BLT, Face Up or Subculture. All the Way could've been Way of Life. Loveless and Dream Attack could've been Leave Me Alone or Lonesome Tonight. Guilty Partner was just, basically, shit. Only real breakaway beast was Fine Time cos it was entirely different to what New order (or, if it had been a year earlier, anyone) had done before! And most people here seem to despise that track!

Technique is a step down from their absolute peak in 1987; it seemed their music was getting better and better until then. I never really like Fine Time b/c it seemed, well, "artificial," like a demo or something.

But in the end singles like Round & Round and Run gave Technique an edge over WFTSC.

their Peak, as you call it in 1987 was a collection of their Singles, their most complete album is technique. WFTSC doesnt come close technique is not even my favorite album but this thread compares the new record to technique.

No i'm sorry, I don't think any other NO album will be better than Technique. Although it may sound negative it's most probably just the truth unless Barney can somehow reform to his former self, sorry but it's just not possible, Technique is and always will be their best album from a band at their prime. WFTSC is also a fairly good album, not over great, but still a good album.

I just don't see any future release being better than Round & Round, Run, and all the other classics from Technique. It's just not going to happen and let's just get to reality and admit that.

NO are still capable of making good music but WFTC is not better than Technique or stuff like True Faith, BLT etc...

I have enjoyed listening to NO's newer stuff and I give a lot of credit, but IMO Technique is when the band were at their best.

And of course, let's not forget the singles from '87, absolute sheer class which could also be considered as the bands peak. I'd say it lasted from about 87 - to 89/90.

I like to hope that the band will have another peak. It's not unheard of for a band or musician to have a strong creative outburst later in their career. If they have already got enough songs recorded for a follow-up to WFTSC, perhaps they are starting another creative period that will yield results that exceed Technique.

As much I hope this would happen, I highly doubt it. First of all we don't have Gillian, they're not quite the same band as they were. This is also because they have changed as people, matured. Still, as I said, they are capable of making good solid music, but are they capable of making something magical as singles from '87 or Technique? I really don't think so. But it would be great if all of a sudden they reverted to that kind of classic NO sound yet with a modern touch to it to make it sound up to date. I highly doubt it, but all you positive thinkers out there, i'm sorry I disagree.

I think Crystal and Regret are infinitely better than the singles from 87 and anything off Technique.

Technique is just the bollocks. From start to finish. The album's that good it's hard to say which is yer favourite track, one day it's Run, then Round & Round, Vanishing Point, Dream Attack..... You get my meaning:nod:

WFTSC is a cracking album, and tracks like Road To Ruin, and Turn would effortlessly (is that a word?)slide onto Technique. There are also classics with the title track and Hey Joe, plus the vastly underated Working Overtime and that fucked up reggae number even has me singing along.

Technique, I think, will always be my favourite album. I'd love the Order to prove me wrong and WFTSC is nearly there.....but not quite:thumb:

OK...i am typically a reserved person, but this thread has struck some kind of a cord in me, it is honestly ABSURD to compare WFTSC to Technique...the latter is arguably the peak of New Order's brilliance and one of the greatest recordings ever made. It is hard to fathom that someone can listen to Vanishing Point, Dream Attack, Mr Disco, Run, Love Less, Fine Time [incontrovertable classics from every angle] and consider rating a track like Jet Stream or Guilt is a useless emotion over them... VANISHING POINT OR JET STREAM?? HMM...WHICH ONE SHALL I CHOOSE? Listen guys, i dont mean to knock WFTSC, it has some amazing songs on it, i LOVE a bunch of songs on the album, but the late 1980's is when New Order was at the top of their creative mountain. This is when New Order had full command of fusing dance and rock together while keeping an emotional and experimental edge over anyone else that even attempted it. Does New Order still have this same level of dominance? I hate to say it, but there is a huge difference to me between tracks like Jet Stream and Vanishing Point like I mentioned before, or even if you want to compare similar sounding tracks, compare Guilt is a useless emotion to vanishing point, and it is a no contest for vanishing point. Vanishing Point doesnt have a female chorus that makes you want to cringe...Technique has been around for 16 years, and the songs it contains are embedded in our minds when we think of the best New Order songs...it is WAY too early to think about WFTSC call in the same vein...each of you needs to let the new album sink in you're heads for a while, so you can accurately make a comparison. However, I will end with saying that I think that there are several songs on WFTSC that have potential to become classics, its just too early to make such a judgement call.

im sure if they had better songs already written that were better than what are on WFTSC they would have used them. its not a bad record but to me a lot of what i heard from it is kind of Predictable, they usually changed something from album to album, yes WFTSC is different from Get ready but its not something that is New Order havent done already, at least to me anyway, i havent heard it enough to say i love it or hate it or Its Okay, but i have heard enough that nothing comes right out and grabs me, well i am picking it up in a little while so we shall see
