Would you buy this album?

In my local paper today, in the section on new CDs to be released this week, this is how they describe the new NO album: “On "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" (Reprise), New Order reverts to the "uppy" sound of its 1989 classic, "Technique."

Here are some questions:

First, if you read this, would you be interested about the album?

Second, what is an “uppy” sound? Does this description make any sense, particularly to the average reader who is reading the list of new CDs? Do you believe New Order's sound is "uppy"?

Third, should “Technique” be the benchmark for future New Order albums?

Fourth, is the attempt to link WFTSC to Technique a marketing tool or the honest truth?

Linking WFTSC to Technique started with the band themselves (Hooky) stating in interviews it was most similar to Technique. The press release also used this analogy so it's going to turn up in quite a few reviews. In fact, it's going to be a rare review that doesn't use the same comparison.

I never, NEVER buy albums on the basis of a review. Maybe in the dark ages this was a good method but with downloads and stores allowing you to listen to most everything, buying on the strength of a review is idiotic.

I only ever take note of two reviewers, strategically positioned either side of my head. If they like, I buy.

When The Stills got four stars in RS for "Logic Will Break Your Heart" and the reviewer called it "the long lost New Order album between Power, Corruption, & Lies and Low-life", I bought it immediately. Might not agree with the statement, but I was not dissapointed.

I woulda bought the damn album anyway...

Reviews are for the lazy.

If I read something like that I would at the very least download it if not buy it :D
