This is the first time that I post here but I've been following this site for a few years.

After listening to the MacQuayle Vocal mix, I just couldn't believe how great it is. It is not cheesy like the original version. It has lots of keyboards and shows Hooky's bass really well. I wish all remixes were as good as this one! What do you all think?

I wouldn't know, the canadian version didn't include it. :nonono: As I recall New Order made the top 10 here with Get Ready whereas in the USA...not so much.

IMHO the original is better.

But again, this is NOT a remix... it's a MIX, it was done before Stuart Price got involved in the project.

Billion times better. I can't stand the original.

The remix is complete unlistenable crap; whereas the original is bliss.

Really like the Mac Quayle mix. The album version is fine enough, but that one is more like classic NO.

Call me crazy, then, cuz I like this one a lot better. Follows Here To Stay in sound and feeling much closer, which is what a lot of fans were hoping for.

The Quale mix has replaced the other mix on my Ipod version of the album. With the original mix, I Told You So and Working Overtime all banished from the album (Turn is a perfect closer), it's a classic. A nine-song New Order classic.

Now I just need to get my mitts on those Jetstream mixes...

Is there any way I can hear this without buying the American version? I will NOT buy the same album two times, I've never played that game. I just bought the European version because it was the first I could get in my hands and that's it. The next Euros will be spent for Jetstream, and it's already a miracle I can spend those, nothing else left I'm afraid, though there's an ACR live album out on LTM which is very tempting... So if there's any chance of hearing it, even on wma so I can't record it (though an MP3 would be better of course), I'd be really happy, thank you.

Based on just one listen, my principal reaction to the bonus track was that it would have felt right at home on Republic.

It reminded me a lot of World and Spooky. I actually like both of those, but I wouldn't have thought that rehashing things from Republic would be the recipe for success in 2005. Apparently someone with decision-making power in the band agreed.

It's way better,

More nuance in the electro--original too straight-forward More Hooky--nuff said.

Still don't like the chorus though, would have been better to instrumental the chorus, come to think of it, so would Dracula's Castle been a better instrumental.

Because the Stuart Price mix sounds like it was meant to be played in a club and the Quayle mix doesn't, DC.

I realize that's less articulate than you might expect from me, but remember, I've only heard the Quayle mix once.

The Mac Quayle has more Hooky in the first minute, but in that same first minute there is that awful ambient synth opening, and the tacky synth beat starting 13 seconds in. If I were dancing (which I would never do :p ) I'd probably rather hear the Mac Quayle version since it's more powerful. The album version has a refreshing lightness to it, and it is a more unified, refined track. The synths are better onthe album version, period.

The remix takes out the emotional punch of the chorus. It's still very interesting and good, but not quite as choice as the original.

Remix as good as the original! :thumb: I'm undecided, actually... some absolutely fabulous keyboards here... If I had the track from someone on this forum I would thank him but we're all honest here and so I won't say it happened... ;) This is too stupid that I Tunes won't let you download the single track, I mean, the whole point of I Tunes was supposed to be you could download any track you want if you didn't want the others, or before deciding if you want them... Don't wanna hear them complain about piracy then... :nono:

I could swear that there is a piano keyboard riff at a little after 4 minutes that they've used before in another song on the Quayle version...gonna have another listen later...wouldn't be the first time they recycled (hehehe) their own music

I'm not sure whether we are thinking about the same thing but try listening to the Stadium mix of Spooky.

The whole minute of the Quayle version starting at about 4:00 sounds very like that mix of Spooky to me.

It seems to me that they are plagiarizing themselves (or perhaps one of their remixers).

OK, DC, after listening to the Quayle mix several more times, I agree it could fit in quite well in a club. The first 72 seconds in particular have that quality.

I guess I would say that the Stuart Price version is an "upbeat" dance track, whereas the Quayle version is a dance track, but not an "upbeat" one.

Well, I posted several comments on that subject that no one but Big showed any interest in, T.

So returning to my original question, do you see any resemblance between the Quayle mix of Guilt and the Stadium mix of Spooky, focusing especially on the minute of Guilt that starts at about 4:00?

if i can rudely interrupt the grammer lesson, i'd like to point out that Mac's Guilt mix really gets going about midway through, including the middle break. from there on, the track is a monster, ending with what must be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ending of TPK 12". Hooky's outro is classic New Order and proves that this version is the one that should be on the album.

I think the NOOL server is acting up on me today.

Anyway Trick,

I have not heard the entire mac version cuz i didnt get paid yet and not sure if it is worth it to get the US version when i already bought the import for 25USD.

I really want it on 12" if it ever comes out.

Can someone help me get this or steer me in the right direction...

I may just have to suck it up tomorrow though.

the 30 second clip sounds ok with the empowering hooky bass but i think those chords in there need to go.

again need to hear the whole thing. Im still gonna use the original on my next mix CD...Any takers??

Just another comment that I neglected to make before. I think the first 72 seconds of the Quayle mix before the vocal starts is actually pretty strong as well.

The only hesitation I have about the track is the very strong resemblance I see to Spooky, especially the Stadium mix.

Yeah Patrick...that is exactly the chord progression I was talking about...almost sounds exactly like the same synth as well...maybe it was meant as a joke...who knows

I don't know about a resemblance to spooky, but I think after hearing the full mac version its better. What gets me is the lack of energy in the chorus, the album version is not much better either. I think this track just needs to be taken back into the studio and New order need to sit down and realize they need to produce this track themselves and rework it.

Patrick, do you listen to a lot of dance music? my guess is that you don't because these two songs resemble each other about as much as any dance song resembles the next. it's a synth piano on both tracks, but that's where the resemblence ends. a 2 or 3 note progression may be the same in both but as far as the instrumentation/drum sounds etc go, i don't hear any similarities.

Hmmm...its actualy a four chord (not note) progression played at exactly the same tempo/phrasing and with either identical or almost identical synth piano...at least that's the way I hear it...

I also like how this song takes off towards the end...my favorite part of either version.

Thanks, Kevin. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who hears a very close parallel there.

Perhaps it was unintended and then someone noticed it and that may have been one of (many) reasons for going with a different version.

I'm not saying that taken as a whole the two tracks resemble each other, Brian, but that the strogest element in the part of the Quayle Guilt that is the best (from about 4:00 to 5:00) is "borrowed" from the Stadium mix of Spooky.

I take some comfort from the fact that Hydrapelican seems to agree with me on this point.

I keep listening to them and changing my mind all the time as to which is the best here.I have taken to just having the whole CD-R continually playing.Must admit that JET is going to be massive in CLUBS.If only i was 30 years younger. You wouldn't need to chat up the girls with this playing.Just lounge lizard in there when this playing. SO GOOD FOR ME.:evil4:

I'm looking forward to hearing them all. I think Jetstream is going to get a lot more attention than Krafty.

the Mac Quayle version (which was the earlier version) sounds a whole LOT more like New Order, the percussion, bass, and keyboards sound like classic New Order... maybe too much... it does drag a bit overall, and because it sounds too retro that is why I think they redid it with Stuart Price (which sounds too little like New Order IMO)... i guess i cant decide

Have you looked at the discussion in posts above about whether the Quayle version, particularly the minute starting at 4:00, has strong resemblances to the Stadium mix of Spooky?

i'll give it a better listen Patrick, i'd hate to be left out..

extra track - Generic techno layout but on top, vintage new order sound.

The album version is modern club bleeps and bloops.

both have their merits. i'll take the mix for longevity tho - i need to hear hooky!

Patsy I've just dug out the old Stadium mix for the acid test. Fair call.

It's an interesting phenomenon this Quayle mix. For me, it has some of the best quintessential New Order elements of the whole album, I love the bass mix and the way it all goes TPK towards the end. Also agree with the peeps who've said the chorus needs a lift, if there was perhaps a killer synth wash or something, it'd be beastly.

Perhaps it's time to get Mac back in here for further interrogation, now his mix is getting talked up. I wonder whether he himself was responsible for some of the extra production? Ironic that the man who tries to make his productions more 'New Ordery' (Price) has stripped away that essence in the album version. Perhaps in the end, Quayle's version was too 'New Ordery' for it's own good.

Thanks for confirming my thought, DC.

I'm glad to have both versions of Guilt, but I think making the Stuart Price version the definitive album version was a good choice. It gives the album a lot more variety than would be there if they'd used the Quayle version.

Are you sure you aren't in two minds about which is the mix most befitting the album, P?

Some missing posts back there.

I know you been waiting for me to weigh in on this one...lol

Here it is:

Nice emphasis on Hooky's Bass Nice breakdown around 3:51

Synths are where the problem lies...

Overall I give it a 7 out of 10 and feel the track lacks the pure raw energy of the original verion.

I have spoken haha

I felt fairly sure that you would prefer the original, T. I do too.

Well, I can't help you there, I'm afraid, T. I already have four copies. I don't think I really need any more.

Biznotic Love Trapezoid wrote: if i can rudely interrupt the grammer lesson, i'd like to point out that Mac's Guilt mix really gets going about midway through, including the middle break. from there on, the track is a monster, ending with what must be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ending of TPK 12". Hooky's outro is classic New Order and proves that this version is the one that should be on the album.

I've written this on another thread but I have to say that the Mac Quayle version of Guilt is the best track I've heard from the WFTSC 'era' IMHO, at least til now. The instrumental part that starts at 3:50 is one of my favourite moments in NO's music, it really brought tears to my eyes when I listened to it for the first time . One of those moments that no other band on Earth was ever able to give me. And the resemblance to Spooky is not a bad thing for me: Gillian's absence is one of the few things that I miss on this album - if someone told me that it was Gillian in the synths on this version I would almost believe... I think the Mac Quayle version is the best version of the track by far and a lot more New Ordery than the released version on WFTSC.

The mix is good, but the original is superior.

Yeah but which one are you suggesting is the original?

Being a track/mix completist, I shall be buying the US version of the album and the US CD single of Krafty when I'm over there in the summer for my Brother's wedding. Just got the US Krafty double 12" pack from EIL this morning (love the Morel remix), and want the US single to grab it on CD.

However, it'd be wonderful if someone could mp3 me the US bonus mix of 'Guilt' via my email, so I get a chance to hear it before August!

Check your mail, Andrew. There are lots of really good deals on counterfeit Viagra and discount mortgages going around.

I've decided I really dislike the Mac Quayle vocal mix. I mean, it's a valient effort on Mr. Quayle's part, but it really sounds like someone trying to make a hit New Order track out of not much of a song to start with. "Here's sort of an OK track that really doesn't go anywhere...see what you can do with it. Throw some synths on or something."

I was listening to it good and loud in the car and would almost swear that the tempo actually slows down during the chorus...that's how labored it sounds. If anything, the chorus should have the illusion of speeding up.

I'm thrilled to have it as an educational experience, and it's helped me to appreciate what Stuart Price was able to do with it.

Many thanks for that. Interesting to hear how it sounded before the album mix was created. Quite electroclashy. They could easily have made this the album version, before bringing out the shorter version that was eventually used on the album as a remixed, single version.

I prefer the newer, album version - probably my favourite track on WFTSC. They'd be daft not to release it as a single. Lovely and dancey. A real hi-energy track, if ever I heard one. The Mac Quale version doesn't have the same impact (or chord changes, for that matter).

Whichever one is the standard album version is superior to the Mac mix, IMO.

After listening to the MacQuayle Vocal mix, I just couldn't believe how great it is. It is not cheesy like the original version. It has lots of keyboards and shows Hooky's bass really well. I wish all remixes were as good as this one! What do you all think?

How dare you call the original cheesy...you have now gone and ruined my frigging birthday...

grrrrrrr....

Happy Birthday FAC10 :music:
