Have you looked at the discussion in posts above about whether the Quayle version, particularly the minute starting at 4:00, has strong resemblances to the Stadium mix of Spooky?
Patsy I've just dug out the old Stadium mix for the acid test. Fair call.
It's an interesting phenomenon this Quayle mix. For me, it has some of the best quintessential New Order elements of the whole album, I love the bass mix and the way it all goes TPK towards the end. Also agree with the peeps who've said the chorus needs a lift, if there was perhaps a killer synth wash or something, it'd be beastly.
Perhaps it's time to get Mac back in here for further interrogation, now his mix is getting talked up. I wonder whether he himself was responsible for some of the extra production? Ironic that the man who tries to make his productions more 'New Ordery' (Price) has stripped away that essence in the album version. Perhaps in the end, Quayle's version was too 'New Ordery' for it's own good.
