Confusion

Does anyone actually like this track ? It used to ruin gigs IMHO back in the old days, a waste of 5 minutes when there were so many other more worthy tracks that could be played.

Yeah, I do like Confusion, but it definitely isn't one of my top five NO singles. Liked it when it came out, and the only time I heard it live, in 85, it was very early in the set, and sounded quite good to me. They didn't play it on the Technique set I caught, so I'll take your word that it used to drag down the set.

Had to pull out the 12" to listen to while typing this, and I like the guitar solo that sounds like it was recorded while Barney was in another room.

I do actually quite like Confusion, sorry. I'd much rather hear that over Blue Monday at gigs, as I'm sure many people would. My best mate, who is a sometimes fan, really really likes Confusion, thats his fave track, so when im with him, I tend to listen to it loads.

There are loadsa other tracks I'd prefer to hear, but the chances of them playing most of those are minimal.

Confusion reminds me of being about 14 and playing it full blast in my bedroom to annoy my brother, coz at the time he was really into heavy metal shite...oh, those were the days....

I'd rather hear Sloe Gin than either of them ! Can't remember which gig it was, but they came back for an encore and did Confusion and Blue Monday. Fucking waste of 15 minutes, especially when they hadn't done Temptation or Perfect Kiss !

I like Confusion well enough, it's one of their better early moments. A little dated, to be sure, but good techno fun.

At the time I found Blue monday such am impressive sound, that the follow-up Confusion disappointed me. It sounded too much like all that break-dance crap. But later on I found it a great track. Actually it was brilliant to come up with sth. like that. As if they wanted to prevent them being a top40-popgroup. As for the live appearances I think that they better not play BM live. IMHO they don't take this song very seriously. Singing at Reading 98 and I quote: "well if it wasn't for your big penis, I'll be heavenly person today". Well in 1983 I was very impressed by their dark dance sound. And I still find it an amazing piece of music.

BM is still a great piece of music - the only thing that pisses me off about it is "Overplayed" - even the band themselves constantly take the piss out of it - but it is part of their history - the same as the JD classics - I just wish they would play it early in the set - and make space for Age of Consent or something they don't play very often...;)

They could always do the short version, that they played a few times in the States 83 tour, if they really must play it every sodding gig !

Blue Monday should be dropped from the live shows completely. It should be left for the clubs where it still sounds amazing. There's enough in their repertoir for them to be able to get by without it. Confusion at the time was a shock considering what had preceded it sound wise, but when you look at it from the perspective that they were experimenting at the time and bringing new sounds and styles into their bag 'o tricks it makes perfect sense. Confusion stands up very well on its own and is definitely one of their great tracks. The original version is my personal favourite but it's one of those tracks that there are a few good remixes of but it has been remixed to death as well. :smoking:

Agree about Blue Monday. There's also enough in their New Order back catalogue to not have to churn out lame versions of Joy Division songs as well, though. At least they shoudl re-learn how to play them first if they must inflict these on us !
