In that case, post on this very thread in essays of 5000 words or more (nothing less will be accepted) on what makes New Order special. Or, if you prefer, why Joy Division were so unique, why nobody can really understand the true beauty and majesty that was the outpouring of the Curtisian dry-cleaning fluid-enhanced brain. im with u shug, its definitely time to go easy on MF..although, i do want to say one thing; and i hope it doesnt come across as bitchy, because its certainly not intended to be. im not keen on speculation about ian curtis neither am too enamoured of attempts to theorise/philosophize (thats what u claim u were doing, right?) about pop music UNLESS grounded in a proper understanding of philosophy, particularly the school of aesthetics. a crucial aspect of philosophy, as u mentioned, is application of disciplined and rigorous thought processes in order to explain/elucidate various concepts/notions/relationships (eg the concept of the "artist", the personification of the artist in the work, the relationship between the audience and the work etc). but unless u openly subscribe to a particular school of thought or state clearly the premises from which u wish to commence and your objective, there really is no evidence of rigorous or disciplined or analytical thought to speak of. your posts become merely pontification (or worst still waffle) couched in quasi-academic language. if u want to move beyond a basic interpretive exercise, i suggest u pick up one of the many books dealing with aesthetic theory. just a thought :)
