About the LWTUA tab in that article - the promo video and live performances I have seen no way does he go down that low - the way I play I substitute the G4 and G2 notes with D9 and D7, isn't that right?

I dont have a clue, I only know how to play air bass.

It's pretty funny watching 316. Hooky looks like he'd be the first to commit murder on stage in '81, and yet in Reading/516 it's nearly goof ball stage antics. Really swell to hear him speak of his unwavering dedication to the bass arrangements this far along down the road.

At Taras it looked like Barney was ready to sock Gillian in the face during Ceremony and the end of DNE.

The Bravery suck....read their bass player's comment about the NO/JD influence. I guess this confirms Brandon Flowers's comments about the Bravery being flavor of the week types.

Gillian, Hooky and Steve should have punched Barney in the face for the way he fucked up Ceremony in Taras. He sounded like English was not his first or second language.

Same notes.. I tend to do the same sort of thing, and I only drone on the A string. But when I saw them live (Area:One show in George, WA), he was definately playing the lead on the G string....and on Jimmy Kimmel he was doing the same ....but with a capo on the 3rd fret that I don't remember seeing before. I think really it depends on where one feels most comfortable getting those notes unless one wants an A and D drone.. I'm too used to my way now to add that D, I think..it works fine without it.

The capo sounds like it has moved up a fret as well since 2002. It has historically been played on the G with the drone from the D, maybe he is experimenting with new techniques etc! Have to say LWTUA is sounding better than it ever has done since they've been playing it.

It's certainly not a hairbrush, that much is certain!

Been through all the tabs shown - LWTUA is correct, though at times he has also substituted the A & B (2 & 4)on the G string for their equivalents on the D, which is also easier to play.

Blue Monday is of course played on the 6-string rather than the 4-string, not that it makes any difference to the example shown (though clearly would on the other riffs used in the song).

Tell him to be careful with the heavy top end gauges as he might have to modify the nut to cope with the width / extra tension of the strings. I've had to do it to both my Yamaha BB1200s's and my BB1200

He won't bother anyway - quite happy to carry on with that Peavey 5 string monster with no thought for authentic sound!
