From Billboard.com (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article\_display.jsp?vnu\_content\_id=1000903860):

Despite lead singer Bernard Sumner hobbling around with what he described as a torn ligament in his foot, New Order rocked through an impressive 11-song set last night that ran from vintage staples like "Blue Monday," "Regret" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" to brand new fare like "Krafty," "Jetstream" and the title track from its new album, "Waiting for the Sirens' Call." The group also drew roars of approval when it dusted off Joy Division's "Atmosphere," "Transmission" and a rousing rendition of "Love Will Tear Us Apart."

I guess Chicago and NY will be spared the silly dancing....

The thing is surely he should know at his age there`s a good chance of him doing himself an injury with all that spaz dancing?

Always remember kids:

It's only funny until someone gets hurt, then it's hysterical!

Get well soon, Barney!

Thank fuck for that, I always cringe when I see that grandad dance, but it's a good way to stop kids doing drugs, "if you take too much E, you'll dance like Barney when you're 50!".

Poor Bernard, hope he isn't in too much pain :(

It's gutting. I think Bernard's dancing is a main feature of the gig, I hope he's a bit more mobile for Barcelona.

I'm honestly very saddened by the fact that I won't get to see him dance at my first NO show on Thursday. I think his dancing is hilarious and completely great. I hope he feels better soon!:thumb:

I wonder what Bez is doing at the moment?

Fair play to him for carrying on, I know of many lesser bands that would have cancelled the whole tour after such an injury :nonono:

Bernard, we're not young kids anymore.

Time to lose 30 pounds, cut back on the dancing, have that prostate checked, and leave the stage diving to The Killers.

Dont think he really gives a f*ck about how he looks dancing, he's just having a laugh, he's notorious for not liking touring in anycase so if he stops having a laugh on stage then we can kiss goodbye to any more gigs from new order full stop (or period as u say in the states!)

It's a bit early for me, thanks.

I think barney would get a kick out of performing with crutches and a cast. as it is, i'm just damned happy i finally got tix to the 5/5 show in NYC!

If Britney can blow a knee (kudos if you're the knee), then Barney deserves an ankle injury for all his years of jigging. At least Phil didn't reach over and reveal B's pastie...

I see it coming...

In addition to the auto-cue - next comes the stunt-double for dancing... :D

This dancing might be the only way Bernard can lose weight on the job. :shades:

So when exactly did Barney get into 'dancing' on stage? I haven't seen them live for years and way back then the most he'd manage was a quick shuffle to neck the nearest beer (or didn't he used to drink Pernod all those years ago????)

When I first saw them in 1985, Barney was glued to the spot, both hands on the mike like the mike stand was holding him up (it probably was) and looking like he'd been forced onto stage as punishment by rob.

The first time I saw the infamous Barney dance was when electronic performed twisted tenderness on TOTP, but he had started moving around in a kind of dance at around the time of technique, must have been the switch from acid to ecstacy.

As i'm seeing them in a couple days, i'm saddened that barney will not be able to dance. I find the silliness of his dancing very endearing. Who else would dance like that in front of mass audiences? The little shot of barney dancing in the jetstream video makes it very enjoyable.

Ah yes, I remember well the mike stand pose. But man he did look cool...

Barney went just a little too wild during BLT.

It`ll be Hooky next when he drops low one too many times:(

Man that is terrible news.

Can anyone PLEASE UPLOAD video footage of this concert...especially the BLT performance?

What exactly happened? Did he actually slip and fall and stay there for a second before getting up or something?

Hang on did you say TWISTED TENDERNESS????? that was never a single...

Which one are you referring to?

yes, I prefer the days when they all stood still (except hooky) and basically just looked at the floor. Barneys dancing is embarassing, and apparently his kids think so too.

the man's pracitcally 50... let him have his fun like you'd let your drunk old dad or silly old uncle dance around at a family get-together. he's past the artsy pretentiousness of his 20s, and he's actually enjoying his time playing with the band now. if barney's having fun, then so am i!

Actually Bernard went to the hospital yesterday afternoon, he was in great shape at the show until he jumped on Blue Monday and made it worst...

He was found with his foot in the ice backstage...

It was getting better, but we'll see tomorrow...

Well...there is the video footage of him spinning around on the Run video...so we know that move is at least as old as the footage that was taken from (Puerto Rico?)

I could be wrong, I was off my head when I saw it, but not enough to forgive that dance.

I'm waiting for the day when hooky does a swoop and his back goes, and he gets taken off the stage like tommy cooper, but I'd rather see that than hooky sitting down like on OST when he did the happy one.

I always thought the Run footage was taken from the USA tour in 89

Jed's thinking of Vivid on TOTP when Barney started the "kick" dancing

As for the live bit in Run, an American Onliner posted that the footage came from the American tour 89, but they also played Puerto Rico Bruv, so it could well have been that

One of these days we'll track it down, I have a feeling it was a personal band video probably shot by Shamberg (a la 98 gigs)

Did you read that somewhere about his kids? Was wondering what they thought of ol'dad on stage :D

His dancing is one of the things we love to see him doing, isn't it? It is always fun to see that he seems to love his own music still enough, to move in a "kind of dancing way" to it. I'm not a great dancer, too. OK I don't do it in public :evil4: .

It seems the doctor does miracle each time, he dances at every show!

Hopefully, 2 weeks of rest will help.

Barny told of his story in Chicago regard to the shark attach while surfin in CA, I could tell the last song he did in Shy-Town he was definitly in pain. I also made it to New York to see them. I was in in front and center on the rail, I yelled at him, " Stay away from those sharks" he heard me and turned his head and asked someone along the stage how someone knew that.. He proceeded to tell his story to the audiance about the shark attach.. -HILARIOUS!! I do hope he makes a swift recovery for the rest of his tour stops in EU.

The BarneyDance rules! :thumb: I remember how it was funny to dance it with Manuel at the Limelight in London just after learning it in Manchester! BTW I also think that the early Barney is the coolest of course, especially the fury of the EGG live video, or the coolness of New York 1981... but it would be ridiculous to see him still performing that way today, the music has evolved and so his attitude. It would be as ridiculous as seeing Robert Smith still around as a goth with make up, hair and stuff... ;)

Sure Barney can play with a torn foot ligament, broken bones or falling on a telepromter machine but he cant play with these injuries

a) Bruised ego b) Broken Autocue c) Low sperm count

And if he broke his fingers, he can use his tongue on the guitar.

Serious: I wasn't there and I don't know anything about a shark attack on anyone... I can't imagine Barney surfing... Not in these days...
