Substance has the second disc of b-sides, but there are many more that came after 1987, and there are some that werent included on substance at all. I think this would be great for die hard fans, and a MUCH better idea then the new supposed best of i heard mentioned on here...come on, another best of? its really dumb at this point, at least wait til after the next album at this point, but a b-sides compilation i think would be much more useful and interesting to release.

they should release a dual disc set... one being a CD of all their b-sides, and the other being a DVD of all their videos.

I made myself a compilation basically the same, but included Vanishing Point (Making Out Mix), Regret (New Order Mix) and Let's Go.

Maybe "suck" wasn't the right word though... but "boring" might have been better...
Is there many people listening to disc 2 of substance without skipping some tracks?

I wanted to add the New Order mix of Regret as well, forgot about Vanishing Point...
An album like that would be popular to the fan base only though... doubt there is any kind of commercial success for that!

Careful what you wish for 
They're decent tracks on their own but it would get horrible reviews and not many people would be interested in buying it. Some groups can do b-side compilations well (Doves, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Skinny Puppy) others cannot (New Order, Depeche Mode, Moby)
It is not a reflection on the group itself, just one of those things.
I think New Order B-sides fit better with their respective singles, rather than collected in an album. Just feels right.
While I would like to have many of their B-Sides on one disc, I don't know that it would hold up as a coherent compilation.
they should recall all the retro box sets sold and add a bsides cd to go along with the live disc and the remixes disc and get rid of one of the other disc, maybe the fan one because its essentially greatest hits.
It'd put the bootlegers out of business, wouldn't make any money though, therefore unlikely.
I'm waiting for 50(or so) years for a DVD with all Videos included. Nearly any "80s-surviving" band releases one in these days...

New Order is not just any 80's surviving band though lol, but yeah the dvd would be great
recycle sounds like the best thing they could do right now. the only place i know of that you can get confusion (the original 82 version)on disc is on the boxed set... and who wants to shell out that much money for the 5 or 6 songs youre missing? there are other examples of this (weatherall's regret mixes... i got a boot from the internet, with horrible sound quality... on tape...)
a project like depeche mode's recent singles boxes would be perfect. it would be best if the early early stuff (ceremony-temptation) were released on one disc, anything to keep the price down, but that wouldnt appeal to collectors (who would be the major market).
i just want all the a's and b's (including remixes) with improved sound quality in a nice, convenient package.
i am currently holding my breath, and expect to die shortly.

Heres what NO should do for b-sides. Re-release the old b-sides plus the new b-side that didnt come as a REMIX. That would be an idea
I think it could be a reasonable idea, providing it was handled correctly and included a unreleased track or two we didn't already have. Perhaps cleaned up and fully mastered versions of "The happy one" and "Let's Go (Waiting for so long)"? I was mucking around in iTu[orange]n[/orange]es earlier and this was the playlist I assembled from my MP3 folder. A good mix of old and new b-sides I think; they even sounded good mixed into each other via the fader. Dubs and remixes are out I'm afraid, so stuff like Beach Buggy etc. are not eligible. Covers also ineligible (Vietnam). MTO was left off because it's pure shite

and why would any nonfan buy it? what would compel them? the 2 out of 5 stars it would get in Cool Music Mag?
I am actually sick to death of new order comps. they already have too many.
then again, the Cure are the true idiots of comps.... their Join the Dots (4 bside cds) has only one decent cd, the first one. and then they have like 14 other various comp cds.... but their fans will buy anything, and they have lots more fans than new order, so maybe it makes sense for them.
someday i would love some comprehensive dvd type anthology of everything new order has ever done. like Heart and Soul boxset but released in 2012 on some new media format that literally contains EVERYTHING they ever did... stephens home movies, old factory footage, etc etc etc....
hell, heaven would be a Factory set, some future format that would contain everything Factory ever done....
essentially, a project that would make Sultan wonder why he ever spent money on ebay....
and I can wait for that, I can wait 10 years for that.

The full 8 minute Hurt 12" is consigned to the Canadian-only CD version of FEP 1982, Vicious Circle (NewOrder mix) is only available on a very rare cassette single, Best & Marsh 12" only on the Canadian R&R CDS/Retro5 etc. The list goes on and on. I own most of the Factory CD singles (and one CD-V) and I saw the Fine time CD single going for 18 quid on eBay the other day. The vast majority of newbies will not be arsed shelling out that much simply for "Don't do it" so a reasonably priced compilation would seem to be the best way to get the rarer side of New Order heard. Who gives a toss about whether it's a commercial success? B-sides albums are never meant to be commercial successes anyway
I agree another bog standard greatest hits compilation would be less use than a coffee coaster but a properly handled rare tracks CD project would be of great interest. If it brought all those rare, niggling tracks together in a remastered form and maybe chucked in an unreleased track or two (Happy one, the 86 vocal Let's Go), who's to say it wouldn't be a hit with the fanbase?

Of course they should do it; it's a brilliant idea. What would it matter if it didn't get good reviews? Most music journos these days are as thick as two short planks and only like garage-rock, so their opinions count for diddly squat. Plus, like other people have said, it'd be handy for newbies or those fans who, like me, can't afford to buy every single thing. If this were to happen, I'd be one of the first in the queue to buy it!
I'd like to see a Substance 2005 or something, 4 cds not necessarily a box set, with all of substance remastered and expanded (long perfect kiss and subculture) and with another disc with touched by the hand of god-wftsc era, plus an extra b-sides disc, I'd love that.

I've actually got the Ruined In A Day cassette single with Vicious Circle on it! Love that track... shame the sound quality is so poor.
