Should New Order release a complete B-side Compilation album?

why would we buy it when we already have it all?

and why would any nonfan buy it? what would compel them? the 2 out of 5 stars it would get in Cool Music Mag?

I am actually sick to death of new order comps. they already have too many.

then again, the Cure are the true idiots of comps.... their Join the Dots (4 bside cds) has only one decent cd, the first one. and then they have like 14 other various comp cds.... but their fans will buy anything, and they have lots more fans than new order, so maybe it makes sense for them.

someday i would love some comprehensive dvd type anthology of everything new order has ever done. like Heart and Soul boxset but released in 2012 on some new media format that literally contains EVERYTHING they ever did... stephens home movies, old factory footage, etc etc etc....

hell, heaven would be a Factory set, some future format that would contain everything Factory ever done....

essentially, a project that would make Sultan wonder why he ever spent money on ebay....

and I can wait for that, I can wait 10 years for that.

in the meantime, i just want new music....

I disagree really, and who's 'we'? Not every single fan (especially new ones) will have all those tracks, let alone the rarer Factory CD singles. The full 8 minute Hurt 12" is consigned to the Canadian-only CD version of FEP 1982, Vicious Circle (NewOrder mix) is only available on a very rare cassette single, Best & Marsh 12" only on the Canadian R&R CDS/Retro5 etc. The list goes on and on. I own most of the Factory CD singles (and one CD-V) and I saw the Fine time CD single going for 18 quid on eBay the other day. The vast majority of newbies will not be arsed shelling out that much simply for "Don't do it" so a reasonably priced compilation would seem to be the best way to get the rarer side of New Order heard. Who gives a toss about whether it's a commercial success? B-sides albums are never meant to be commercial successes anyway :shrug:

I agree another bog standard greatest hits compilation would be less use than a coffee coaster but a properly handled rare tracks CD project would be of great interest. If it brought all those rare, niggling tracks together in a remastered form and maybe chucked in an unreleased track or two (Happy one, the 86 vocal Let's Go), who's to say it wouldn't be a hit with the fanbase?

Of course they should do it; it's a brilliant idea. What would it matter if it didn't get good reviews? Most music journos these days are as thick as two short planks and only like garage-rock, so their opinions count for diddly squat. Plus, like other people have said, it'd be handy for newbies or those fans who, like me, can't afford to buy every single thing. If this were to happen, I'd be one of the first in the queue to buy it!

I'd like to see a Substance 2005 or something, 4 cds not necessarily a box set, with all of substance remastered and expanded (long perfect kiss and subculture) and with another disc with touched by the hand of god-wftsc era, plus an extra b-sides disc, I'd love that.

I've actually got the Ruined In A Day cassette single with Vicious Circle on it! Love that track... shame the sound quality is so poor. :shrug:
