Why New Order are better off miming on TV — Forum Archive

Because they are embarrasingly bad live on TV whoever thinks they sounded good singing live on Ross needs shooting! My folks watched this and my mum bless her even called me up to remind me that NO was on :clap: However i was embarrased for myself, us fans and the band themselves when they completely fucked up the song by shouting out of tune the whole way through. Ok so at gigs its a different matter, but theres no excuse for a pre-recorded tv show to sound so terrible, The mimed performance on CD:UK this morning (albeit sterile and uneventfull) would have been a much more presentable performance for the millions of viewers on prime time BBC1 watching last night.

Stick to miming on TV so as to not sound shit and just leave the live singing to ya gigs please!!

Dont get me wrong i'd love to see em do a dodgy performance at a gig as we want it live, raw and surprising but on TV keep it pro!!

I was on here this afternoon, and couldnae believe people thought it was a bad performance, we've been use to the same performances year after year..... even the missus thought it was good :nod: Anyways, I went back down to watch it on the DVD again and I still think it's ace.

On a more serious note, it was the live TV appearances that made the band so different to everyone else. They could quite easily have mimed all the TOTP appearances but it wouldn't have been half as special if they had

True that SHUGZV,a couple i knew back in 1983(actually was best man at their wedding too-shit must have had NO FRIENDS)said to me after BLUE MONDAY,which at the time on TOTP was OK only,"NEW ORDER were brilliant on TOTP singing LIVE and wasn't it good when BARNEY laughed".That did it for me.I knew they had then become as good as their old group 'JOY DIVISION' and was HOOKED again.The miracle is 22 years later we can still talk about them being HERE.A bit like me really.How the fcuk did WE survive.I don't even LOOK like GLORIA GAYNOR!?:D

Just saw on another thread people laying into AIIWIW. If only people could see it on The Whistle Test (without the snow;) ) I think they'd finally get it, then when Sunrise kicks in, it feels like being drunk....I say this, cos the best time to watch it is after the pub when you've had a few bevvies, sing-along with the Order :beer:

Well im hard pushed to say i thought that performance was "brilliant" it was pretty lame in all honesty, of course i will love it regardless cause its New Order :D but I wanted em to put on a decent performance as i knew my folks was watching and they sounded err.. not like the song is supposed to sound like!!!

Surprises me Bruv, I am sat here listening to the Canal+ version, and there's not too much difference if you ask me. I thought that was good and I thought last night's was just as good.

The worst case example being Blue Monday, 22 year ago.

comparing new orders live performances on totp or any other show for that matter with bands or artists that mime is ludicrous really. the band themselves already know the pitfalls of performing live on a show and being compared to others that are miming (check out barneys comments on the riverside interview circa 84)but at least new order go out there and give it a shot,and there are plenty of bands that mime and STILL fuck it up. alright id say the ross performance wasnt anything to right home about but so what? i can ryhme of at least a dozen tv performances in that they was amazing and playing live,and shamed the other artists on the bill that where miming.

It doesn't matter how bad any live performance is, it's always the mimed ones that I find cringeworthy (Here to Stay on TOTP particularly springs to mind).

Was lucky enough to be present at the Whistle Test show..I also remember watching it time and time again when I got home. This was the best NO/TV match ever.

Been reading some of the drivel about the latest shows..Agreed they have been pretty pony but did you really expect anything else.

Dare I say that when I watched it back, I didn't think it was quite as bad as everyone is making out. It isn't necessarily their fault they were out of tune - blame it on dodgy techies.

I agree that miming is more sensible when it comes to single sales.
