In my opinion, New Order totally. Just two completely different styles, it' what Barney wanted, and that's just the way it goes.

The pollquestion could also be: which songs are better, the Joy Divionsongs or the New Ordersongs?
They are the same band who evolved and chose to change their name, for obvious reasons. This poll is useless.
well its not really fair to the legacy of Joy Division, they might have Acheived Greater Things had Ian Lived, then again maybe not, we will never know
Closer is the definitive album. No New Order album can touch that, but overall, and partly because the NO catalogue is bigger than JD's, NO have more top notch songs. JD's legacy was largely enhanced by 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', 'Atmosphere', 'Transmission', and 'She's Lost Control'. And as big a fan as I am of Unknown Pleasures, it always sounds a bit hesitant to my ears, with the exception of 'Disorder', 'Shadowplay', and 'Wilderness'.
PCL and Technique are probably my two fave NO albums, but as consistent as they are, I am not quite inclined to say they are masterpieces. Not yet, anyway.
I guess what it comes down to is how I mention both groups to people that are unfamiliar with the music. With New Order I'll talk about all their great songs, with Joy Division I'll talk about Closer as a whole, complete piece of aural art.
I love both bands.
I love Joy Division because they introduced me to cool music in the 70's.
I love New Order because they kept that going through the 80's, 90's and 00's!
Imagine you'd never heard either band - EVER.
Someone plays you 'Transmission' or 'Decades'. Then they play you 'Temptation' or 'Regret'.
Would YOU realise they were in essence, the same band? I don't think I would.
They're both great for different reasons. ![]()
Whatever happend to JD. I heard they had a movie out a couple of years ago?
New Order aren't they the fellas who did Blue Monday. I thought they broke up years ago.
